1. At the first page of the story, Donald Duck, an assistant janitor in the Duckburg Museum, discovered that, among the other artifacts, there exists some square eggs. How did Donald discover their existence?

Answer: He dropped one of what he thought were rocks and it cracked open.

Donald didn't drop the egg on purpose. He was charged by a superior of his to polish the precious gemstones in the room and Donald initially thought the eggs were themselves some kind of stone. After the discovery of the square eggs, financial and scientific interest on them rose considerably.
2. After the discovery of the eggs, Donald, his nephews and their superiors in the museum boarded a ship to South America to find the place the square eggs and the chicken that give birth to them, are found. However, during the journey, all of them, save the nephews, suffered from food poisoning. Why?

Answer: Because the nephews made an omelet using the square eggs.

The nephews did use the square eggs for the omelet because there were no normal eggs found in the ship's kitchen. Each and every of the other members of the expedition refused to go further as a result of the sickness, with the exception of Donald, who didn't consider the nephews trustworthy enough to accomplish the goal of the expedition and went to supervise and look after them.
3. Unfortunately for Donald, his first attempts to find the square eggs were unsuccessful. Nobody knew about the square eggs. People thought they were insane or fools. Yet, one day they met a blind old man, who knew about the eggs and where they came from. What was his occupation?

Answer: Vicuno hunter

The old man knew about the eggs from his father, who had come in possession of some of them. One day, decades ago, the father saw an American explorer emerging from a nearby mist, behind of which lay a hidden valley. But before the father managed to help him, the explorer died. He was Professor Rhutt Betlah from Birmingham, Alabama.
4. Upon receiving information about the eggs from the old man, Donald and the nephews went beyond the mist to find the hidden valley of the square eggs. After some time, they reached the valley. What's the valley's name?

Answer: Plain Awful

The name was given by the Professor from Birmingham, who was the first visitor from the outside world and the only one before Donald and the nephews. The professor also gave the inhabitants of Plain Awful their southern accent.
5. Soon after their entrance to the valley, Donald and his nephews encountered a local. When they met him, he was singing two songs of southern American origin. Which songs?

Answer: "Dixie" and "Carry Me Back to Old Virginny"

The local's singing was interrupted by Donald soon. Donald noticed that the local was of cubic shape with square head and nose. He soon told all his folks of the Ducks' arrival and they rejoiced, for they had to see outsiders for decades.
6. The inhabitants of the valley decided to honor Donald and the nephews with a banquet. The Ducks hoped they would enjoy a royal meal. Yet, the menu consisted only of one thing. What?

Answer: Eggs

The inhabitants of Plain Awful didn't know there were other edibles apart from eggs. Although the Professor from Birmingham had told them of chicken, who lay the eggs, they couldn't locate them.
7. After the meal, Donald and the nephews went to the place where the square eggs are found. They managed to find the square chicken, which look like big rocks. They showed them to their hosts. However, the nephews made something prohibited by the laws of the valley. What?

Answer: They blew round bubbles.

The only law in Plain Awful was that no round objects are allowed to be exhibited. By breaking it, the nephews were threatened with capital punishment and had to do something next to impossible to save their heads.
8. The president of the valley gave the nephews a chance to escape their punishment, if they blew square bubbles. After days of trying, they were still unable to do it. Yet, when it was the high moment, they did it in front of all the locals. How did they manage it?

Answer: They hid little square chicken under their shirts and the chickens blew the bubbles.

Of course, they didn't tell the locals. The explanation came from the nephews, when Donald asked them how did they manage it. The incident helped to get the Ducks to the good graces of the inhabitants.
9. Soon after the nephews blew the square bubbles, the Ducks left the valley, carrying a compass, some square eggs and two square chicken. However, they got lost in the mist and got out of it only after they had eaten the eggs. Yet, the worst came in the Duckburg museum, when it was discovered the whole expedition was a failure. Why?

Answer: Both chickens were male and couldn't lay eggs.

Donald remarked that he had never felt a greater embarrassment in his life. Subsequently, the Ducks went to a fast food to grab a bite to eat, but Donald became enraged upon the mention of egg and chicken by the man who ran the place. At the last panel, a police car can be seen moving to the direction of the establishment, after an urgent call.
10. Who was the Good Duck Artist who gave us "Lost in the Andes!"?

Answer: Carl Barks

Of course, it's Carl Barks, the renowned Duckman who created almost the whole Duck universe and whose stories were the ones that made the Ducks so popular and so enduring through the years.
The story was written by Barks in 1949 and published in ""Four Color Comics"# 223. In an interview in 1982, Carl Barks stated that this story was his best, at least technically. The story is regarded as a masterpiece and a representative of the Good Artist's work.
