"Fiddler on the Roof" was a musical play set in Russia in 1905. It was the story of Tevye, a man with five daughters trying to maintain his Jewish traditions as the world encroached on him. Opening as a Broadway play in 1964, it was the first musical to surpass 3,000 performances.

Born in San Francisco, California in 1876, Jack London was lured to Canada by the Yukon Gold Rush of 1897. Many of his famous stories were written there. Besides this story, "White Fang" and "The Son of the Wolf" were novels he wrote because of the experience. Yukon life didn't agree with him and London returned to California where he died at the age of forty.
