Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In what wrestling organization was the title first recognized?

Answer: Mid-Atlantic Television Championship

The title was first introduced in 1974 in Mid-Atlantic Wrestling. It was first called the Mid-Atlantic Television title before being renamed by Jim Crockett Promotions. The first title holder was Danny Miller. He defeated Ole Anderson in the tournament final for the belt.

He first won the title on February 27, 1974 before losing it to Ivan Koloff. Danny only held the title one time. Ivan Koloff held the title on five different occasions.
2. What wrestler whose nickname was "The Hammer" held the title four different times?

Answer: Greg Valentine

Greg first defeated Mr. Wrestling for the title in 1976. He would hold the title three more times between 1976 and 1981. Greg was the son of legendary wrestler Johnny Valentine. Greg was a major draw in the NWA and WWF. He held the WWF Intercontinental Title as well as the tag team title with Brutus Beefcake. Greg was also a three time United States Champion.

He was much like Ric Flair as he would wear fancy robes to the ring. He also used the Figure Four Leg lock as his finishing maneuver.
3. Who did Tully Blanchard defeat for his first NWA Television championship?

Answer: Mark Youngblood

Tully held the title for 353 on his first reign. He defeated Mark Youngblood on March 28, 1984. He would defend the title successfully until March 16, 1985. He lost the title to his long time nemesis, Dusty Rhodes. Tully held the title on three different occasions.

He beat Dusty Rhodes for the title twice. Tully's full reign was 685 days total. His first reign marked him as the longest running NWA Television Champion of all time. Mark only held the title that one time. He would later go on to hold the NWA World Tag Team Championship with Wahoo McDaniel twice.
4. Barry Windham defeated Steve Austin for his one and only reign as NWA Television Champion. In what city in Georgia did Barry win the title?

Answer: Atlanta

Barry beat Steve Austin on April 27, 1992, he would not hold the title long. On May 23, 1992 Steve beat Barry for the title in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Barry held many major titles in his career including the NWA World and United States Heavyweight Championship. Steve Austin would go onto worldwide fame as "The Rattlesnake" or "Stone Cold".

He was a major draw in the WWF where he held numerous single and tag team titles. Georgia was a hot spot for wrestling in the early 1980's when it was owned by Jim Crockett Promotions.

Many superstars got their start in Georgia Championship Wrestling.
5. Disco Inferno held the WCW World Television championship on two separate occasions. What superstar defeated him for his first of six title reigns?

Answer: Booker T

I was present at this event when Booker T beat Disco Inferno for the championship. It was a live production of Nitro at the Baltimore Arena. I remember it well because I was cheering for Disco Inferno and my friend wanted Booker T to win. Booker T held the title six different times beating stars such as Chris Benoit and Fit Finlay. Booker last reign was ended by Rick Steiner on May 9, 1999. Booker held the title a total of 204 days combined.
6. Who was the first person to win the renamed WCW World Television Title?

Answer: Bobby Eaton

Arn Anderson was the champion at the time of the name change. Bobby Eaton defeated Arn on May 19, 1991 in Florida. Thus making him the first wrestler to win the renamed title. Bobby would lose the title on June 3, 1991 to Steve Austin. Bobby was a well known tag team wrestler.

He was a member of "The Midnight Express" with Dennis Condrey and then Stan Lane. He held many major tag team titles with both men. Dennis and Bobby first defeated "The Rock 'n' Roll Express" for the NWA World Tag Team Titles on February 2, 1986.

They defended the title for close to six months before losing them back to Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson.
7. What wrestler had the longest amount of days as the NWA Television Champion?

Answer: Arn Anderson

Arn held the title on four different occasions. He was the longest running non-consecutive Television Champion. He held the title 870 days. He first beat Wahoo McDaniel in a tournament final on January 4, 1986. He lost the title to Dusty Rhodes after a 248 day title reign. Four years later he defeated The Great Muta for his longest consecutive days as champion.

He held the title for 336 days just seventeen days shorts of Tully Blanchard's longest reign. He would also defeat Tom Zenk and Johnny B. Badd for the title.
8. Who did "Lord" Steven Regal defeat for his first ever NWA Television Championship?

Answer: Rick Steamboat

Steve defeated Ricky on September 19, 1993 in Houston, Texas. It was the first of his four reigns as champion. He also defeated Último Dragón, Lex Luger, and Larry Zbyszko. Steven was a no nonsense wrestler. He would attack you straight on and beat you through his wrestling abilities.

He was never really a big favorite of mine. I always thought he had no personality, but never disputed his in ring abilities. Steven held the title for 577 days non consecutively. His last reign ended in July 22, 1997 at the hands of Último Dragón.
9. What two real life brothers won the NWA Television Title on separate occasions?

Answer: Rick and Scott Steiner

Both Rick and Scott held the title a combined five times. They were a successful tag team prior to going into singles competition. Rick and Scott held the Wcw World Tag Team Titles on eight different occasions. They also held the WWF World Tag Team Titles twice. Rick won his first NWA Television title from mike Rotunda on December 26, 1988. Scott would win the title for the first time from Ricky Steamboat on September 29, 1992.

The brothers had a split after Scott decided to join the New World Order.
10. Who was the last recognized WCW World Television Champ before the title was retired?

Answer: Jim Duggan

Whether this was a publicity stunt or not I am not really sure. "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan had found the title in the dumpster. The previous champion, Scott Hall no longer wanted the title and threw it away. Jim found the title on February 16, 2000 and defended it until it was retired on April 10, 2000.

The title had a rich and wonderful history and was held by many of the greatest superstars in wrestling. It was the only title that was defended regularly on television. It was sad to see the title go because it would remind me the feuds that Tully and Dusty had over it.
