Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. All Greek names end in what two letters?

Answer: es

Diabetis is the guide when our friends arrive in Athens, and the town seemed to be populated entirely by his cousins. In "All at Sea", the Greek slave's name is Spartakes.
2. All Norman names end in what two letters?

Answer: af

The whole of the ancient world was afraid of Normans and trembled before them. Asterix and Obelix seemed to think otherwise, and found their names quite funny.
3. All Egyptian names are supposed to end in 'es'. There are a few exceptions, however there is an Egyptian in one of the stories, whose name is Ptenisnet. In which story do you find him, and what does he do?

Answer: Army recruit in "Asterix the Legionary"

Although Ptenisnet comes to the recruitment camp thinking that it is a hotel, he is forced to join the Roman army. Due to his lack of knowledge of the language, he doesn't understand it. As for Artifis' assistant, his name Krukhut is also an exception, since this too, does not end in 'es'.
4. What was the Normans' magic potion?

Answer: Apple Brandy

After being attacked by Asterix and Obelix, the Normans drink this beverage and come back to fight. Obelix, on seeing this, gets frustrated that everyone is drinking it except himself. As for tea, it is the Britons' magic potion.
5. Which civilization considers even the cultured and advanced civilization of Rome as barbaric and inferior compared to themselves?

Answer: Greek

It is true that only the Atlanteans are indeed more civilized than Romans. The Greeks are the ones who call the Romans barbarians and decadents in "Asterix at the Olympic Games".
6. The winner of the wrestling event in the Olympic games in "Asterix and the Olympic Games" is from which Greek city/colony?

Answer: Rhodes

The colossus who won the wrestling event was the only participant from Rhodes. He was able to win the gold medal (or the olive crown) in wrestling. Not that this makes him more powerful than Obelix, which he, and his brother find out the hard way - by getting thumped by Obelix, much to the amusement of Vitalstatistix.
7. What is the name of Edifis' ship?

Answer: nastiupset

In Egypt, when stone was urgently required and this ship wasn't moving particularly fast enough, Obelix takes takes things in his hands well, literally. He starts pulling it, much to the amazement of the Egyptians and the amusement of Asterix.
8. "Asterix and the Normans" is the only story in which we come across the Norse or Viking people.

Answer: False

In "Asterix and the Great Crossing", we come across a Viking explorer. Like Columbus, he had set out to discover a new world. He could have almost succeeded if he had brought back with him actual Red Indian natives instead of Asterix and Obelix who had been marooned there earlier.
9. The slaves, who escape with Caesar's trieme, decide to stay in the land of freedom in "Asterix and Obelix All at Sea". What place is this?

Answer: Atlantis

Spartakes says that this mythical island where people never age, thanks to the wisdom of their leader, is the land of freedom that they sought for. Getafix however, has other views about this matter - he tells Vitalstatistix that the land of freedom is their own Gaul.

Not an exaggeration, considering the fact that liberty, equality and fraternity came up in this country during the French revolution.
10. After Cleopatra's palace had been built and the architect Edifis had himself covered in gold by the Queen, what did he decide to do?

Answer: Become friends with his rival Artifis

Edifis thinks that working as a slave without any magic potion for few days is enough punishment for Artifis. Nothing is mentioned about his retiring from work, since Artifis says that together, they will build some of the most beautiful pyramids of the ancient world.
11. What currency was used in Egypt in the story?

Answer: Talents

Edifis says that the rival architect has a lot of talents. When Asterix asks if he is very intelligent, he replies that that was the currency used by the Egyptians, and that he was rich.
12. The athlete from which Greek colony refused to eat the meal served to him when he gets the aroma of wild boar from the Roman camp at the Olympic games?

Answer: Sparta

When the trainer reminds the athlete that he is a Spartan and back at home, he had faced worse hardships, he shouts at him saying that back in Sparta, he didn't have any savages next door stuffing themselves all day, and if that is what is decline, he wants to decline too.
13. The night before the Olympic games event, everyone dreams about victory. Asterix dreams that he gets the Olive crown, and Dogmatix a golden bone. What about the Roman athlete?

Answer: A golden broomstick

Whenever the Roman athlete's morale drops low, he takes the broom and sweeps the floor. This action of his can very well be associated with his unusual dream.
14. What did the Normans finally became frightened of?

Answer: Cacafonix's voice

When Cacafonix sang for the first time, the Normans were shocked to hear such a horrifying voice. When he offered to sing again, they shouted that they didn't want to hear it again as the mere idea gives them the shivers. In fact, Asterix points out, they had learnt the meaning of fear.
15. In "Asterix the Legionary", the person who did not get recruited in the Roman army because of his underweight was a Greek.

Answer: False

He was in fact, a Goth. The only Greek present at the recruitment was Neveratalos.
