Not Your Everyday Superhero Trivia Quiz

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Matter-Eater Lad was a DC comics superhero with a heavy duty stomach, that came from which of the following planets? (Think pink!)

Answer: Bismoll

Believe it or not, Matter-Eater Boy was from the planet Bismoll, which does sound an awful lot like the pink colored stomach medication known as Pepto-Bismol. Matter-Eater Boy has the ability to eat anything. This includes rocks, metal, and even radio-active matter without being harmed.

He can also spit acid! He first appeared in "Adventure Comics" #303 in December of 1963. For some reason, readers never found him to be as appetizing as some of the other superheroes who were out at the time.
2. The Red Bee was a 1940s superhero who fought crime by using a trained bumblebee named Michael.

Answer: True

I hinted that there might be some unusual superheroes in this quiz and The Red Bee is definitely one of them. Like Batman or the Shadow he was a powerless vigilante whose secret weapons to fight crime. In his case, the weapon was a trained bumblebee named Michael. Add to this, a costume that consisted of a red pirate-style shirt with pink puffy sleeves and red and yellow striped tights and you come up with one scary superhero. NOT!
3. Which of the following is the best description of the groovy superhero known as Brother Power the Geek?

Answer: A hippie superhero

Brother Power the Geek was a mannequin that was hit by lightning and brought to life. He had superstrength and a variety of magical powers. He could not be killed because he was not a man but rather a living mannequin. Brother Power the Geek lived among the 'flower people' and fought against 'the establishment'.

He was a true hippie superhero. He was a creation of the same artist (Joe Simon) who created Captain America. In one episode he even attempts to run for President of the United States. This character lasted two episodes making him the fastest comic to be cancelled by a major publisher.
4. Can you figure out what special talent, the superhero known as Cypher, has?

Answer: He can decode anything

Simply put, Cypher could decipher anything. That was his only talent. He was a mutant being trained by the X-Men and first appeared in the 1980s. He did not last long when it became apparent he could not fight in battle. But he was really good at things like cryptoquotes and other word puzzles.
5. The superhero known as Groot looks a lot like which of the following options?

Answer: A tree

Groot looks like a tree. He eats wood to rebuild his strength, which is enormous. He can control other trees causing them to attack villains. He is also fire resistant. The creation of Stan Lee, Groot made his debut in 1960 by publisher Marvel Comics. This brilliant, alien, superhero tree appeared in print for over fifty years, off and on.
6. How did the superhero named Bouncing Boy receive his powers?

Answer: He accidently drank a super plastic formula

Bouncing Boy first appeared in 1961. He has the power to inflate his body into a round ball. While inflated like a rubber ball, he is impervious to electricity and resistant to injury. He got his powers after he drank a super plastic formula which he thought was soda-pop. He destroys his enemies by bouncing around and smashing anything he runs into.
7. Tommy Tu-Tu was a superhero who wore a pink sparkly ballerina outfit and used a magic wand and pixie dust as his weapons.

Answer: False

I know we have had questions on some rather unusual superheroes, but to the best of my knowledge, there is no superhero named Tommy Tu-Tu. But now that I have provided a description, don't be surprised if he shows up in the next comic book that you buy.
8. Which of the following is the unlikely name of a young DC comic superhero that was first introduced in December of 1989?

Answer: Arm Fall Off Boy

Arm Fall Off Boy is a real comic superhero who has the ability to detach his own limbs which he then uses to club his opponents into submission. He is then able to stick his limbs back on his body without damage. I am not sure what inspired DC comics to come up with this rather lame superhero.
9. Doop is a Marvel superhero who looks unappetizingly like which of the following?

Answer: A giant green booger

Doop is a very strange superhero who looks a lot like a giant green booger. This shapeless blob has the ability to levitate, is very strong and appears to be hollow with the ability to store objects inside his body. He is the result of the classic' U.S. Military experiment'. Doop can be injured but has the ability to heal very rapidly.

He has been hurt many times since his debut, but always heals quickly, morphing into the handsome booger he really is.
10. What was the name of the female superhero introduced by Marvel Comics in 1989, who has the power to change shape from a svelte nymphet into a huge, very fat woman?

Answer: Big Bertha

Big Bertha's real name is Ashley Crawford and she is a supermodel. But when needed she can become morbidly obese. She also become taller and stronger and can bounce like she is made of rubber. She does NOT look like Wonder Woman, but rather like an enormously fat, fifty-year-old woman. Political correctness, is not this characters specialty.
