Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. You decide to start your day with some antioxidants by listening to a classic song. Who sang the most famous version of "Blueberry Hill", the music that is in the background as you are starting your day?

Answer: Fats Domino

"Blueberry Hill" was first published in the 1940s and has been recorded by a number of people over the years including Louis Armstrong, Elvis Presley, Elton John, and Celine Dion. Fats Domino's 1956 version is the most famous. It was voted the Number 82 on "Rolling Stone" magazine's list of Greatest Songs of All Time.
2. You decide that you need to kick it up a notch, so you head to your liquor cabinet in an attempt to make your day a bit more entertaining. Although alcohol isn't terribly nourishing, what could be more entertaining than a little "Sex on the Beach", the cocktail that is. According to the International Bartenders Association (IBA), what goes into one of these entertaining drinks?

Answer: Vodka, peach schnapps, orange juice and cranberry juice

This cocktail seems to have originated in Florida. The IBA ingredients are one of two common varieties of this drink. Another type, listed in Mr. Boston Official Bartender's Guide includes vodka, Chambord, Midori Melon Liqueur, pineapple juice, and cranberry juice. This cocktail is typically served in a tall glass, and is garnished with an orange slice.
3. The next thing on your list to continue your nourishing entertainment is a movie. What could be more entertaining? You head to the theatre and find an old movie showing that was one of your favourites in the 1980s, so you are happy. Which actress in this favourite has a unique way of nourishing herself when she ate lobster?

Answer: Daryl Hannah In "Splash"

In "Splash", a man (Tom Hanks) falls in love with a mysterious woman (Daryl Hannah) who also happens to be a mermaid. At one point in the movie, he takes her on a dinner date. She has the lobster, but rather than picking the meat out like most people, she eats them shell and all.

Another interesting tidbit about the movie is that some credit Hannah's character with popularizing the name "Madison" for girls, since the mermaid in the movie uses that name that she took from "Madison Avenue" in New York when she was walking past the road sign.
4. You get home from the movie theatre and decide that you want to continue your nourishing entertainment at home. You flip on the television and see one of your favourite shows on the Food Network, so you settle in for an episode of "Diners, Drive-ins, and _______".

Answer: Dives

This show, hosted by Guy Fieri, started in 2006. It has him travelling around to small, non-franchised restaurants interacting with owners and customers as he observes things in the kitchen and tries the items on the menus that are considered specialties of the restaurant.

The show focuses mainly on restaurants in the United States, but it has shown some restaurants in some areas in Europe.
5. Contunuing with the theme of nourishing entertainment, perhaps it's time to let you know that Halle BERRY is my favourite actress. One of the reasons that I really like her is her activism. What is one of the causes that she voiced concerns about in the mid-2000s?

Answer: A liquefied natural gas facility that was planned for Malibu, California

In 2006, Berry worked with a number of other celebrities to fight against the Cabrillo Port Liquefied Natural Gas facility that was proposed to be installed off the coast of Malibu. At that time, Berry said, "I care about the air we breathe, I care about the marine life and the ecosystem of the ocean." As a result of the activism, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed the bill that would have allowed the facility to be built.
6. I love baseball! What better way to be nourished and entertained than to watch my favourite Single A-ball team from Modesto. Believe it or not, their team name is also one of my favourite snacks, the Modesto Nuts.

Answer: True

The Modesto Nuts are a farm team of the Seattle Mariners. Their first two mascots were Al(mond) and Wally (walnut). The Modesto Nuts play their home games at the John Thurman Field in the California city of Modesto.
7. After the ball game, I turn on the stereo to my favourite channel and immediately hear a song by a girl group that takes me back. These women nourished and entertained me with song back in the 1990s. What group did Melanie Brown, Melanie Chisholm, Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell, and Victoria Adams form that reminds one of working in the kitchen?

Answer: The Spice Girls

The girls in this group took on aliases, with Melanie Brown becoming "Scary Spice", Melanie Chisolm becoming "Sporty Spice", Emma Bunton becoming "Baby Spice", Geri Halliwell becoming "Ginger Spice", and Victoria Beckham (née Adams) becoming "Posh Spice".

Their debut single hit number one in 37 countries, and their debut album sold more than 31 million copies worldwide. This led them to have the best-selling album by a female group in history up to that point.
8. One of my favourite ways to entertain myself is cooking. This is great for my day of entertaining nourishment, so I pull down my favourite cookbook to start dinner. What cookbook, a best-seller since the 1930s, makes me "happy" to use as a guide for my next meal?

Answer: The Joy of Cooking

"The Joy of Cooking" was first published in a private printing in 1931 by Irma S. Rombauer. Ms. Rombauer was a homemaker from St. Louis, Missouri who was in need of funds after her husband committed suicide and left her with no income to support her family.

She published the cookbook privately before it was published by a commercial printing house in 1936. With re-prints ever since, "The Joy of Cooking" has become one of the most popular cookbooks in private kitchens and restaurants alike.
9. While supper is cooking, I decide to settle in with one of my favourite nourishing video games while I wait for the chicken to finish baking. The game reminds me of my first job flipping burgers at a local fast food chain. What classic game will I entertain myself with at this point in my day?

Answer: BurgerTime

BurgerTime was created in 1982. The game has a chef (Peter Pepper) assembling burgers while avoiding the hamburger enemies of Mr Egg, Mr. Hotdog, and Mr. Pickle. Once all burgers in a level are assembled, the game advances and becomes more difficult with both more burgers to create, and more enemies to avoid. How's that for nourishing entertainment?
10. After supper, I decide to end my day of nourishing entertainment by taking a stroll through the local zoo. It's entertaining for me, but not so much nourishing for me, so I decide to go with the purpose of learning something about nourishing animals in zoos. I stop at the lions' enclosure first. What do I discover is added to the beef that they are fed each day?

Answer: Calcium

In the wild, lions eat both the meat and the smaller bones in the animals that they catch. The bones provide them with much-needed calcium to keep their own bones and teeth strong. In order to ensure that lions in captivity will get enough calcium in their diets, most zoos will provide the supplement for them mixed in with the beef and other meat that they are fed.
