Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which famous cartoon cat is in love with Toodles Galore?

Answer: Tom (of "Tom and Jerry")

Toodles Galore is the glamorous white lady cat who toys with Tom's affections and almost always casts him aside.
She even goes so far as to canoodle with Jerry at one point; she is so fickle!
2. Which mouse is cousin to Speedy Gonzales, the fastest mouse in all of Mexico?

Answer: Slowpoke Rodriguez

Slowpoke Rodriguez is the slowest mouse in all Mexico. He appears in two cartoons alongside his cousin Speedy; "Mexicali Schmoes" from 1959, and "Mexican Boarders" from 1962.
Slowpoke is also ordered to be deported from the US by Governor Schwarzenegger in the "Werewolf vs. Unicorn" episode of the show "Robot Chicken."
3. Do you remember Touche Turtle? You do? Then do you remember who was his faithful sidekick?

Answer: Dum Dum

Dum Dum was a shaggy grey dog who fought bravely alongside Touche as they fenced their way through legions of 'baddies.'
Originally shown on "The New Hanna-Barbera Cartoon Series" in 1962, Touche was voiced by Bill Thompson, and Dum Dum was voiced by Alan Reed.
4. One of the earliest animated cartoon characters was Walt Disney's creation for Universal Pictures, "Lucky Rabbit" - can you remember his name?

Answer: Oswald

"Oswald the Lucky Rabbit" was 'born' in 1927, and starred in a series of short cartoons which lasted until 1928.
After Walt Disney had a 'falling out' with Charles Mintz of Universal Pictures, Oswald was dropped, to be replaced by Disney's 'new star' Mickey Mouse.
In 2006, Oswald 'came home' when Disney re-acquired the rights to the character.
5. Which cartoon character had a girlfriend called Cookie and a dog called Towser?

Answer: Buddy

Buddy was a Warner Brothers character from their "Looney Tunes" series. He was 'born' in 1933, and starred in 23 cartoons between 1933 and 1935 when he 'retired' to make way for new characters including one called Porky Pig.
Buddy has emerged from retirement just once since then, when he made a special guest appearance in the "Warner's 65th Anniversary" episode of "Animaniacs" in 1994.
6. Which of Tex Avery's cartoon creations was the adversary of Meathead Dog?

Answer: Screwy Squirrel

Screwy Squirrel made five appearances between 1944 and 1946, and they almost all consisted of him finding new ways to 'bash' poor Meathead Dog.
In the very last cartoon though, there is a throwaway reference by Meathead that led viewers to think Screwy had gone to meet his maker, and Avery never used the character again.
7. One of the very few characters who ever got the better of Bugs Bunny was a small inoffensive turtle. Can you remember his name?

Answer: Cecil

Cecil made three appearances in all, from Tex Avery in 1941, Bob Clampett in 1944, and Friz Freleng in 1947. Each cartoon was a retelling of the classic Aesop's Fable "The Tortoise and the Hare" and of course, Cecil confounded Bugs each time, although not always honestly.
Cecil also made a cameo appearance in the film "Space Jam" in 1996.
8. Friz Freleng's creations Roland and Rattfink had their own series of 17 short cartoons, including one called "Hurts and Flowers" in which Rattfink spent the time destroying Roland's prize blooms. What were the flowers in question?

Answer: Daisies

At the end of the episode Rattfink is killed and Roland leaves a bunch of daisies on his grave, only for Rattfink's ghost to rise up and throw them at him.
As well as their series, released between 1968 and 1971, Roland and Rattfink made several guest appearances on "The Pink Panther Show."
9. How were the two toads Toro and Pancho collectively known in their original (English language) appearances in a Friz Freleng series?

Answer: Tijuana Toads

The "Tijuana Toads" appeared in 17 cartoons between 1969 and 1972. In 1976 they were renamed the "Texas Toads" and their names were changed to Fatso and Banjo for their appearances on the "Boomerang" TV channel.
The Spanish language version of the original shows had the toads called Pancho y Rancho.
10. Which cartoon character was known as 'Dummvogel' in the German language versions of his films?

Answer: Crazy Legs Crane

Crazy Legs Crane appeared regularly in "The Pink Panther Show" alongside his son Crazy Legs Jr. and Dragonfly.
His first ever appearance on film was in an episode of "Tijuana Toads" in 1969.
