Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When was Snoopy's first appearance in "Peanuts"?

Answer: October 4, 1950

Snoopy made his initial appearance two days after "Peanuts" debuted.
2. Who is Snoopy's owner?

Answer: Charlie Brown

"He's Your Dog, Charlie Brown!".
In the early strips, Snoopy was a kind of "community property" dog; he just appeared and interacted with all of the "Peanuts" kids. In later comics, it was explained by "Peanuts" creator Charles Schultz that Charlie Brown's parents bought him from the Daisy Hill Puppy Farm. Linus is Charlie Brown's neighbor and best friend.
3. Where was Snoopy born?

Answer: Daisy Hill Puppy Farm

Snoopy was born at the Daisy Hill Puppy Farm. Brian Griffin of "Family Guy" was born at a puppy mill in Austin, Texas. St. Bernard's Hospital was the birthplace of Scooby Doo's nephew Scrappy Doo. St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center was founded by Geraldine Dodge in 1939 in Madison, New Jersey and, among other services, offers pet adoption, pet training, doggy day camp, seminars, and a pet poison hotline.
4. What breed of dog is Snoopy?

Answer: Beagle

On October 5, 1950, Snoopy was identified as a Beagle by Charlie Brown with his paraphrasing of Gertrude Stein when, upon seeing Snoopy in repose on the lawn, he uttered "Beagles on the grass, alas.": Snoopy strangely retorted "I ain't no stupid beagle." Snoopy, years later, would himself paraphrase Stein with the remark "Beagle on the roof. Aloof."
5. What are Snoopy's markings?

Answer: White with black ears, white tail, and one black spot on his back.

Snoopy is white with a black spot on his back, black ears, and a black tail.
Brian Griffin ["Family Guy"] is all white, Pongo of "101 Dalmatians" is white with black spots, black ears, and a white tail, and Scooby Doo is brown with black spots.
6. Snoopy has lived a dog's-life version of Walter Mitty, having assumed many identities over the past six decades. Which alter-ego wore a helmet, goggles, and wind-blown scarf?

Answer: The World War I Flying Ace

With the roof of his doghouse imagined as the cockpit of his Sopwith Camel, Snoopy, as the The WWI Flying Ace, engaged the bloody Red Baron in many terrible dog fights, most of them ending in a bullet-riddled doghouse falling from the sky with smoke billowing from its door.
The following lyrics are from the 1967 song "Snoopy Versus The Red Baron", recorded by The Royal Guardsmen.
"In the nick of time, a hero arose
A funny-looking dog with a big black nose
He flew into the sky to seek revenge
But the Baron shot him down; "Curses, foiled again!"
7. What position does Snoopy play on Charlie Brown's baseball team?

Answer: shortstop

Snoopy, at shortstop, is also the team's best player.
8. Snoopy is an aspiring novelist. What is the standard opening line to his prose?

Answer: "It was a dark and stormy night..."

All of the hard work he puts into his book gets him nothing but rejection notices. It's probably just as well as he's plagiarized the opening line from a 19th century novel called "Paul Clifford" which reads "It was a dark and stormy night; the rain fell in torrents - except at occasional intervals, when it was checked by a violent gust of wind which swept up the streets (for it is in London that our scene lies), rattling along the housetops, and fiercely agitating the scanty flame of the lamps that struggled against the darkness." "Once upon a time" is a standard fairy tale opener, "A long, long time ago..." is from "Star Wars". and "Faster Than The Speed Of Love" was a novel written by Brian Griffin.
9. Who refers to Snoopy as "the funny-looking kid with the big nose"?

Answer: Peppermint Patty

Peppermint Patty Reichardt has a strong relationship with Snoopy and is seemingly oblivious to the fact that Snoopy is a dog. She has hired Snoopy as a bodyguard [watchdog], as an attorney, and even planned to quit school and hide out in "Chuck's guest cottage" aka Snoopy's doghouse. Marcie finally convinced her of Snoopy's canine ancestry, but Patty still treats him like one of the boys.
10. How many siblings does Snoopy have?

Answer: 7

Five brothers and two sisters:
Sisters Belle and Molly and brothers Spike, Olaf, Andy, Rover and Marbles.
