Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What class of ship was the Federation starship Voyager?

Answer: Intrepid

Voyager was the second Intrepid class starship and included several innovations previous starships did not have including bio-neural circuitry. Sovereign class ships came out after the Intrepid class. Constitution class were the predominant class of ships in the time of Captain Kirk. Galaxy class was a 24th century model most famously the Enterprise commanded by Captain Jean-Luc Picard.
2. According to "Star Trek" canon, which of the following is the correct listing of the founding members of the Federation?

Answer: United Earth, Vulcan, Andoria (aka Andor), and Tellar Prime

Prior to the airing of "Star Trek: Enterprise", there had been some debate on exactly who the founding members of the Federation were. That show, considered canon, clearly established United Earth, Vulcan, Andoria, and Tellar Prime as the founding members.

In the 2150s, the Earth-Romulan War was fought between United Earth and the Romulan Star Empire. Prior to the war, United Earth had helped form a coalition between it and the other three future founding members. These allies assisted United Earth during this war against the Romulans thus laying the groundwork for the founding of the Federation around 2161.
3. Which present-day country is the location of the headquarters of the Federation?

Answer: France

Starfleet Headquarters was located in San Francisco, while it was implied that the Federation was headquartered in Paris, France in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (The Eiffel Tower can be seen in the background). Few, if any, details are provided on why.
4. Which of the following was not one of the 285 Rules of Acquisition expected to be obeyed by all Ferengi?

Answer: Don't be afraid to donate to charity if it will make you look good to paying customers

There is no mention of this rule in the "Star Trek" canon. The Ferengi are fiercely greedy and would very likely not donate to any charity organizations and so forth because it would cut into their profits.
5. Which Klingon killed the tyrannical ruler Molor and founded the Klingon Empire many years before the events portrayed in the "Star Trek" canon?

Answer: Kahless

Kahless The Unforgettable, who was not of noble birth, managed to defeat the tyrannical ruler Molor using the first bat'leth in the Battle of Qam-Chee. Kahless and his wife ruled together building his empire and conquering his enemies. In addition to military conquests, he ruled this empire and established the code of honor still in use many years after his death.
6. Which episode of "TOS" ("The Original Series") established that Vulcans and Romulans were related?

Answer: "Balance of Terror"

"The Neutral Zone" is an episode of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" where the crew of the Enterprise, commanded by Captain Picard, find a group of people from the Twentieth Century who were cryonically preserved. Additionally, they investigate the disappearance of colonies in the Neutral Zone.

The Romulans are investigating the same thing. "The Enterprise Incident" is an episode where the Enterprise, under the command of Captain Kirk, try to steal a Romulan cloaking device. "Minefield" is an episode of "Star Trek: Enterprise" where the crew of the Enterprise, commanded by Captain Archer, unintentionally travel into a minefield.

The Romulan Star Empire claims they have violated their space sometime after they collide with one of the cloaked mines.

This is considered the first time humans encounter Romulans.
7. In what significant way does the Cardassian justice system vary from the justice system favored by the Federation?

Answer: All individuals accused are convicted and sentenced prior to trial

Several episodes establish how the Cardassian justice system operates. The Cardassians consider the state to be more important than the individuals. As a consequence, they do not concede that a person is innocent, regardless to any new evidence. In their society, the trial is for the people.

A way to see justice always succeed. Therefore, the purpose of the trial is to show how the state has proven the guilt of the person and convince the individual to accept the judgment of the state. Cardassian trials are usually quite short.
8. What is the name of the Klingon home world?

Answer: Qo'nos

H'atoria is a small Klingon colony near the Federation. Qu'Vat is the place that the human augments tried to attack to incite war between the Klingons and the humans in the 2150s. This would also be the place of the Klingon augment virus of the same period. With the help of Doctor Phlox, a Denobulan, they were able to treat this virus.

Unfortunately, the Klingons who were cured lost their ridges, as a consequence. Thus, explaining the reason for the difference between flat-headed Klingons and crested Klingons. Cronos sounds like Qo'nos, but is spelled differently.

It has not revealed to have been a planet in the "Star Trek" universe.
9. Which Quadrant did the Borg originally come from?

Answer: Delta

The Alpha Quadrant is where most of the events of the "Star Trek" universe occur. It is home to many powers including The Klingon Empire (for the most part), The Romulan Star Empire, The Cardassian Union, and The United Federation of Planets. The Gamma Quadrant is the Quadrant connected to the Alpha Quadrant by the wormhole near Bajor.

This Quadrant is most notable as the home of The Dominion. Very few things of the Beta Quadrant have been revealed. The most notable thing about this Quadrant is that it is where the Klingon homeworld is located.

The Delta Quadrant is where The Borg originally came from. This Quadrant is where Voyager was stranded in the late 2300s. During its voyage in the Delta Quadrant, it eventually reached Borg territory. Voyager had encountered the Borg quite regularly at that point.

While there, Voyager was able to strike a major blow to the Borg.
10. Who is considered the "father of Vulcan logic"?

Answer: Surak

Sarek was an ambassador and representative to the Federation Council. He was also Spock's father. Haadok was one of the founders of the monastery at P'Jem. Little is known of Sargon, but Vulcans believe they are descended from him.
