Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. There we were, me and you and the dog. The singer Lobo remembers the dog's name, do you?

Answer: Boo

Lobo (Ronald LaVoie) wrote and sang "Me and You and a Dog Named Boo" in 1971. It reached number five on the Billboard Hot 100. Later in 1971 country singer Stonewall Jackson recorded it, his last top 40 country hit.
2. Bud Light beer experimented with a canine spokesperson in the late 1980s. Do you remember his name?

Answer: Spuds MacKenzie

Spuds MacKenzie was a Bull Terrier used in Bud Light commercials starting in 1987. He always seemed to be in the company of good-looking women. Amidst complaints from consumer- groups that Anheuser-Busch was using him to appeal to children he was retired in 1989.
3. You may know him as Superdog but what did Superman call his pet?

Answer: Krypto

In the Superman comic books, Superman's father, Jor-El, used their dog Krypto as a test subject in one of his prototype rockets. It went off-course and several years later landed on Earth, after Kal-El (whom we know as Superman) had already arrived. Krypto had super powers, much like his master.
4. Even Shakespeare found he could use a dog in his plays. What is the name of the ungrateful cur in "Two Gentlemen of Verona"?

Answer: Crab

Crab's owner, Lance, called him "the sourest-natured dog that lives" when the dog did not seem to care when Lance was ready to move to Milan as Proteus's servant. Apparently, everyone else in the family, including the cat, was sorry to see him go.
5. Sergeant Snorkel in the "Beetle Bailey" comic strips had a pet bulldog whose name was the same as the first chancellor of Germany. What name did the dog answer to?

Answer: Otto

Sgt. Snorkel dressed Otto in an army uniform like his. Originally walking on all-fours, Otto eventually walked on his hind legs
6. "X-Files" agent Dana Scully had a pet dog for awhile. She gave it a "Moby Dick"-related name. Do you remember what it was?

Answer: Queequeg

As the "X-Files" TV show backstory unfolded, we learned that the Scullys had a family tradition of making nicknames from characters in "Moby Dick". In the episode "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose", Scully (Gillian Anderson) ended up with a pomeranian which she named Queequeg after the harpooner in "Moby Dick". The dog was eaten by an alligator in the episode "Quagmire".
7. The Gru family in the movie "Despicable Me" had an oddball dog described as vicious, aggressive and ferocious. What was his name?

Answer: Kyle

Though extremely ugly, Agnes Gru thought Kyle was cute and wasn't afraid of him. Eventually Kyle came to terms with the rest of the family.
8. The character Raj on TV's "The Big Bang Theory" had a pet Yorkshire terrier. What sweet name did it have?

Answer: Cinnamon

Raj acquired Cinnamon from Howard and Bernadette. He went so far as to buy a pink baby stroller to take her for walks.
9. The Beatles sometimes used animal names in the titles of their songs. Which of these was a real Beatles song title?

Answer: Hey Bulldog

"Hey Bulldog" was recorded in 1968 while the Beatles were working on the "Lady Madonna" video. It appeared on the 1969 album "Yellow Submarine". Recording engineer Geoff Emerick would later claim that it was the last song the Beatles worked on where all the members were enthusiastic about recording it.
10. It wasn't a tropical paradise in the Canadian Yukon but Sergeant Preston of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police did his part in upholding law and order. He had a canine companion who was equal to the task. What was the dog's name?

Answer: Yukon King

"On King, on you huskies!" shouted Sergeant Preston as the Royal Canadian Mounted Policeman chased after the bad guys on his dogsled. Beginning as a radio serial, "Sergeant Preston of the Yukon" transitioned to TV in 1955 and lasted for three seasons. With a dog named King and a horse named Rex (seen in Summer episodes), Sergeant Preston was apparently a 'Type-A' personality.

More trivia: "Sergeant Preston" started on Detroit, Michigan radio station WXYZ in the 1930s, the same station that originated "The Lone Ranger" and "The Green Hornet".
