Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What kind of injury was Bob Backlund suffering from when he lost the WWE Heavyweight Championship to the Iron Sheik?

Answer: A neck injury

Backlund had been ambushed by the Sheik on "Championship Wrestling" while performing a test of strength that involved twirling 70 pound Persian clubs. The injury that Backlund sustained in the attack made him particularly vulnerable the Sheik's submission hold, the camel clutch. When Backlund was caught in the hold during their title changing match, Backland's manager Arnold Skaaland threw in the towel fearing for Backlund's safety, forfeiting the match and ending Backlund's six year title reign.

Backlund would leave the WWE within months, but he would make an unlikely return nine years later and win back the title. His second reign would last 3 days.
2. What was George "the Animal" Steele's patented "move"?

Answer: Attacking the turnbuckle

Steele lived up to his name in several ways, including abundant body hair, hunched posture and an extreme lack of intelligence.

Ironically, the man who portrayed Steele, Jim Myers, has a Masters Degree and was an accomplished high school teacher and lifetime football coach who is inducted into the Michigan Coaches Hall of Fame.
3. Which WWE wrestler was sued by talk show host Richard Belzer after injuring him while demonstrating a wrestling hold on Belzer's show, "Hot Properties"?

Answer: Hulk Hogan

Hogan and Mr T were on the show to promote Wrestlemania. Belzer asked Hogan to demonstrate some wrestling holds and Hogan applied a front chin lock that blocked blood flow to the brain, forcing Belzer to pass out. Belzer hit his head on the floor when he was released, causing profuse bleeding from the back of his head that was seen on television and that forced him to leave the show during the broadcast.

Belzer originally sued Hogan for five million dollars, but settled out of court for an undisclosed amount which was reportedly split evenly by Hogan and Vince MacMahon. Hogan has since admitted that he intentionally knocked Belzer unconscious because he felt that Belzer was ridiculing wrestling and questioning its authenticity.
4. Shortly after Terry Funk arrived in the WWE in 1985, he was joined by his brother Hoss. Then, a third Funk joined them. What was his name?

Answer: Jimmy Jack

Jimmy Jack was actually a fictional brother, which was probably obvious to many fans seeing how both Terry and Hoss (who usually wrestled under his real name, Dory,) were former NWA Heavyweight Champions while Jimmy Jack was previously unknown.

Soon after Jimmy Jack was introduced to WWE audiences, Terry abruptly left the promotion taking the momentum the Funks had had with him. Jimmy Jack and Hoss continued as a tag team for a short while, before Hoss quietly retired, leaving Jimmy Jack, who stuck around for another year, the only Funk who wasn't a real Funk and the only one to be a bonafide jobber.
5. Which tag team lost the WWE Tag Team Championship on "Superstars of Wrestling" in a match in which one of its members lay unconscious for the entire televised portion of it because a real-life injury rendered him virtually immobile?

Answer: The British Bulldogs

The match, which was against the Hart Foundation, was joined in progress with Dynamite Kid motionless on the concrete floor as a result of being allegedly knocked out by Jimmy Hart's megaphone. Crooked referee Dani Davis allowed both Harts to double team Davy Boy Smith, whom they eventually over-powered to win the match, ending what was then the second longest reign in WWE tag team history.

Unbeknown to fans, Dynamite had suffered a sever back injury one month prior that made him unable to wrestle and that would eventually end his career. He would return to the ring, but the injury would linger and the Bulldog's momentum was lost. For the remaining two years of their WWE tenure, the Bulldogs would remain out of title contention and would put over up and coming heel teams to the bewilderment of fans.
6. Honky Tonk Man, who wrestled as a heel for nearly his entire WWE run, was actually introduced to fans as a baby face. What caused him to turn heel?

Answer: Fan rejection

Honky showed up as an embarrassing face who was an immediate flop with the fans. After the fans overwhelmingly rejected him in a vote of confidence, he vowed "no more mister nice guy," and soon he was a rising heel under the tutelage of Jimmy Hart, whose gimmick was conveniently compatible with Honky's.
7. Which song played during the introduction to "Saturday Night's Main Event"?

Answer: Obsession by Animotion

"Saturday Nights Main Event" was first broadcast shortly after "Wrestlemania" in 1985. The irregularly scheduled late night show upped the anti for wrestling shows by bringing main event wrestling to network television. Many crucial moments happened on the show and it is remembered for great wrestling as well as its catchy intro.
8. How did Miss Elizabeth distract the referee and stop the count on the Mega Powers to allow them to comeback in their match against the Mega Bucks at "Summerslam" 1988?

Answer: She removed her skirt

Special guest referee Jess Ventura had a slow count going on Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage who were down on the floor after Andre the Giant cleared the ring. Elizabeth climbed up onto the apron, pulled off her skirt and began walking back and fourth in her red panties. With Ventura and the heels staring on in disbelief, Hogan and Savage recovered and launched sneak attack that led to the win.

After Hogan pinned Debiase with the leg drop, he hoisted hoisted Elizabeth in his arms as Real American played on the speakers and Savage stood by waiting for a hug.
9. In 1989, Ted Debiase made a deal with Bobby Heenan that would see Heenan Family member Hercules join Debiase's entourage. How was Hercules to serve Debiase?

Answer: As a slave

Despite the fact that slavery had been outlawed in the USA for over two centuries, WWE broadcasters assured us that documents had been examined and that legally binded Hercules to Debiase as a slave. A stipulation, however, gave Hercules the right to wrestle his way to freedom in a series of matches against Debiase, which he did.
10. Where was the Ultimate Warrior billed from?

Answer: Parts Unknown

Parts Unknown is the default origin of wrestling's most bizarre and outlandish characters. Other wrestlers to come from there are Demolition, the Executioners and the Missing Link.
