Chic Young (1901-1973) was an American cartoonist who created the comic strip "Blondie" which was launched in 1930. The comic strip featured Blondie, her sandwich crazy husband, Dagwood, their son, Alexander, daughter Cookie and dog, Daisy. The cartoon has appeared in over 2,000 newspapers, translated into 35 languages in over 45 countries.
2. Garfield

Answer: Jim Davis

Jim Davis is an American cartoonist who first published the comic strip "Garfield" in 1978. The strip includes Garfield (the cat), Jon Arbuckle (the human) and Odie (the dog). In 2013 it held the Guinness World Record for the most worldly syndicated comic strip.
3. Calvin and Hobbes

Answer: Bill Watterson

Bill Watterson is an American cartoonist who is the author and creator of the comic strip "Calvin and Hobbes". He drew the cartoon from 1985-1995 as a syndicated cartoon. Due to Watterson's dislike of comic syndication he stopped drawing the cartoon. The cartoon involves an adventurous six year old boy, Calvin, and his mocking stuffed tiger, Hobbes.
4. Peanuts

Charles M. Schulz (1922-2000) was an American cartoonist who created the comic strip "Peanuts" in 1950. He drew the strip until his death in 2000. The strip mainly features Charlie Brown, his friend Lucy and Snoopy. Over that 50 year period he published 17,897 strips and at its peak in the 1960s run in over 2,600 newspaper world wide.
5. Hägar the Horrible

Dik Browne (1917-1989) was an American cartoonist who created the comic strip "Hägar the Horrible" which was first published in 1973. The comic strip features Hägar as a scruffy and an over-weight bearded Viking. There are a number of other characters in the strip including his bossy wife, Helga, their son Hamlet and daughter,Honi. Hägar and his best friend, Lucky Eddie frequently go on raids with their crew to England and France.
6. Fred Basset

Alex Graham (1913-1991) was a Scottish cartoonist who created the comic strip "Fred Basset" which was first published in 1963. Fred is a male basset hound and owned by a middle-aged husband and wife who are never given any names. Fred frequently misbehaves with his canine friends, Jock, Yorky and Brutus.

Mort Walker (1923-2018) was an American comic strip writer who created the comic strip "Beetle Bailey" in 1950. Private Carl James "Beetle" Bailey is the main character. Beetle joins the US Army and is stationed at Camp Swampy. Beetle is very lazy and tries to avoid any type of work and is always see with a cap or helmet covering his forehead and eyes.

He is usually tormented by Sergeant Snorkel.
8. Li'l Abner

Li'l Abner is a 19 year old, 6 foot 3 inches, naive, simpleminded but a good natured hillbilly. He ilves in a log cabin with his parents in a mountain village called Dogpatch. Li'l Abner is constantly trying avoid the marital attentions of the voluptuous blond, Daisy Mae.
9. Dennis the Menace

Hank Ketcham (1920-2001) was an American cartoonist who created and drew the comic strip "Dennis the Menace" from 1951-1994. Dennis Mitchell lives with his parents in a middle class area of Wichita, Kansas and their next door neighbor is Mr. Wilson. Dennis's lovable dog is called Ruff. The comic strip was so popular that it was adapted into live and animated television programs.
10. Andy Capp

Answer: Reg Smythe

Reg Smythe (1917-1988) was an English cartoonist who created the Andy Capp comic strip that has been running in The Daily Mirror and The Sunday Mirror since 1957. Andy Capp is from northern England and is a lazy, working class chap (who actually never works) and who wears a flat cap and lives with his long suffering wife, Flo. Andy wears the cap over his eyes and always wears it whether he is napping , playing football or bathing. Andy normally gets into trouble whether it be on the football field or in the local pub.
