Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. On March 22, 1993, the WWE created its Hall of Fame and inducted its very first member that evening. Which superstar had the honor of being the first wrestler in this elite organization?

Answer: Andre the Giant

On March 22, 1993, the WWE Hall of Fame was created and very fittingly the late, great Andre the Giant was the very first person to be enshrined in it. On January 27, 1993, Andre, whose health had been failing for several years, succumbed to a massive heart attack while in his native France. First appearing with the WWE in 1972, Andre was a favorite of the fans for many years until a shocking heel turn in early 1987.

Although his heart and mind were still in the ring, by 1990 his Acromegaly forced him to retire from active competition.

In his last pay per view match, Andre turned on longtime manager Bobby Heenan, thus reconciling himself with his legions of fans.
2. During the era of Lou Thesz, Bruno Sammartino and Verne Gagne this man was a pioneer for the African American wrestlers. From the 1950s right until the late 1970s, this man was a constant favorite whenever and wherever he wrestled. Who was this man who was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 1994?

Answer: Bobo Brazil

During the 1950s and 1960s, one of the most popular attractions in the business was the irrepressible Bobo Brazil. Standing an imposing six foot six and weighing nearly 300 pounds, Brazil was a favorite of many fans in the WWE, the NWA and the AWA. Brazil actually defeated Buddy Rogers for the NWA Heavyweight Title in the fall of 1962, however the title change has never been recognized by that organization.

In 1977, in the twilight of his storied career, Bobo lost the NWA United States Title to a brash up and coming star named Ric Flair. Brazil was honored with induction into 'The Hall" in 1994, just three and half years before he died at age 73 after a series of strokes.
3. Although he never won the WWE Heavyweight Title, this man was one of most popular attractions from the mid 1970s right through the mid 1980s. He was also very proud of his ethnicity and many times showcased his favorite foods and ability to sing and dance. Who was this 1995 Hall of Fame inductee?

Answer: Ivan Putski

Using the famed rally cry of "Polish Power", the squat but muscular Ivan Putski and his feared "Polish Hammer" won the hearts of many fans during the 1970s and early 1980s. In October 1979, Putski and a very young star named Tito Santana defeated the legendary Valiant Brothers for the WWE Tag Team Titles in Madison Square Garden.

Although this would be the only title Putski won in his lengthy WWE tenure his battles against Superstar Billy Graham, Killer Khan and Jesse Ventura were classic rivalries. Putski also was famous for discussing his Polish heritage including his love of kielbasa, pierogies and the popular polka.
4. This man was one of the most feared and sadistic villains of his era, striking fear into opponents' hearts everywhere. Upon his retirement he became one of the most successful wrestling trainers of all time. Who was this man who was enshrined in 1996?

Answer: Killer Kowalski

Killer Kowalski, who gained his savage reputation when he accidentally severed an opponents ear with a stiff kneedrop, was one of the most feared competitors of all time. During the 1960s, Kowalski's brutal bouts with WWE Heavyweight Champion Bruno Sammartino at Madison Square Garden, usually ended up with both wrestlers battered and bloodied.

After his retirement Kowalski ran a famed wrestling school and among his prized pupils were Triple H, The Eliminators, Chyna, and Big John Studd. Also famous for being a lifelong bachelor, Kowalski married for the very first time in June 2006, just a year and a half before he died at age 81.
5. After a hiatus of several years, the WWE resumed having Hall of Fame inductions in 2004, bigger and better than ever. The induction ceremony became part of the much hyped "Wrestlemania Weekend". Which of the following stars was NOT inducted in the Class of 2004?

Answer: "Ravishing" Rick Rude

In March 2004, after an eight year hiatus, the WWE resumed inducting its finest stars of yesteryear into its Hall of Fame. This year boasted one of the biggest classes ever to be enshrined into the organization but it did not include the late Rick Rude.

It did, however, include eight time NWA Heavyweight Champion Harley Race, Former WWE Intercontinental and Tag Team Champion Greg Valentine and the late Big John Studd who was one of the premiere heels of the mid-1980s.
6. Ironically these two wrestlers who held the WWE Tag Team Titles together were both inducted in 2005. They were however inducted separately and not as a tag team. Who were they?

Answer: Nikolai Volkoff and The Iron Sheik

Two of the most hated heels of their era, Nikolai Volkoff and and his frequent tag team partner The Iron Sheik were inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2005. In December 1983 The Sheik stunned the wrestling world when he ended Bob Backlund's reign as WWE Heavyweight Champion in Madison Square Garden.

In March 1985 at the very first "Wrestlemania" Shiek along with The Russian Volkoff defeated Mike Rotundo and Barry Windham to win the WWE Tag Team Championship. Along with their famed manager "Classy" Freddie Blassie, these two angered fans in arenas everywhere; The Sheik with his anti-American comments and Volkoff with his horrendous singing voice.
7. In 2005, several of the participants in the main event of the inaugural "Wrestlemania" were enshrined in Hall of Fame. Which wrestler was not part of The Class of 2005?

Answer: Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka

The main event of the first "Wrestlemania" on March 31, 1985 saw WWE Heavyweight Champion Hulk Hogan and Mister T, accompanied by Jimmy Snuka, face Paul Orndorff and Roddy Piper who were seconded by Cowboy Bob Orton. As fate would have it Hogan, Piper, Orton and Orndorff were all selected to "Hall of Fame" in the same year, that being 2005.

The famed Jimmy Snuka, an icon of the mid 1980s, had already been inducted in 1996. The noted 1980s pop culture sensation Laurence Tureaud, aka Mister T, who appeared again in "Wrestlemania II", was not inducted until 2014.
8. In 2006, the WWE paid homage to one of the most successful female managers/valets of all time with induction into the Hall of Fame. Unfortunately the following year this female superstar died. Who was this?

Answer: "Sensational" Sherri

In April 2006, the outspoken and controversial wrestler/manager "Sensational" Sherri was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Originally billed as Sherri Martel she first rose to prominence in the AWA where she won the AWA Womens Championship several times.

She also served as the manager/valet for then AWA Tag Team Champions Buddy Rose and Doug Sommers. In mid-1987 she jumped to The WWE where she quickly gained recognition by defeating the legendary "Fabulous" Moolah for the WWE Womens Title. In 1989 Sherri began managing and her impressive list of proteges included Randy Savage, Ted Dibiase, Shawn Michaels and later the Harlem Heat in WCW.

In June 2007, she died at age 49 of an apparent drug overdose, another legend lost too soon.
9. Former WWE Tag Team Champions Tony Atlas and Rocky Johnson were inducted into the WWF Hall of Fame in different years. What is correct pairing of Johnson and Atlas with their induction year?

Answer: Tony Atlas in 2006, Rocky Johnson in 2008

In November 1983, Tony Atlas and Rocky Johnson made history when they defeated The Samoans to win the WWE Tag Team Titles thus becoming the very first all African American duo to win a tag team championship. In April 1984, they lost the titles in a televised bout against Adrian Adonis and Dick Murdoch, almost from necessity, as the two stars did not get along very well. Johnson began his career in the late 1960s and rose to prominence in the NWA in 1970s where he challenged Dory Funk Jr, Terry Funk and Harley Race for the NWA Heavyweight Title. Beginning in 1979, Tony Atlas was a fan favorite in the WWE for many years feuding with the likes of Ken Patera, Paul Orndorff and a even a young Hulk Hogan. Several years ago he resurfaced in the WWE serving as a manager to the burly Mark Henry.
10. Since tag team wrestling has played an integral part in the wrestling industry with many exciting matches and feuds, its a no-brainer that naturally some teams are in the WWE Hall of Fame. Which of the following teams was inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame in 2006?

Answer: The Blackjacks

It is not very often that the WWE chooses to honor a certain tag team by enshrining them in their Hall of Fame, so when a duo does get the nod, they surely are among the best of all time. In 2006 the infamous "Blackjacks", Mulligan and Lanza were selected to the Hall.

In addition to winning the WWE Tag Team Titles in 1975, these two men were a force to reckon with during the 1970s and early 1980s. One of the most imposing and vicious duos of all time, Afa and Sika, The Wild Samoans were inducted as part of the class of 2007.

These two huge Samoan brothers won the WWE Tag Team Titles three times from 1980-1983. In addition to successful singles careers Jack and Gerry Brisco also were quite the formidable tag team winning numerous titles and engaging in a legendary rivalry with Rick Steamboat and Jay Youngblood in the NWA.

Despite their huge popularity and success in the WWE during 1985-1988, Davey Boy Smith and The Dynamite Kid, The British Bulldogs, are not members of this elite club.
11. In 2012, "The Four Horsemen" were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as one of the most successful and influential factions of all time. Along with James J. Dillon, their manager, which quartet of "Horsemen" were inducted?

Answer: Ric Flair, Barry Windham, Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard

Perhaps the most feared and successful faction of all time was the infamous "Four Horsemen" which started in the NWA in January 1986. This group was groundbreaking in that they popularized sneak attacks, injuring and attacking rivals in locker rooms and parking lots and the forging of the group mentality.

Originally, the WWE had wanted to honor the original quartet of Ric Flair, Tully Blanchard and Ole and Arn Anderson. This was nixed because Ole still has ill will towards Vince McMahon for his 1984 takeover of Georgia Championship Wrestling.

Although not the first the group of Flair, Windham, Anderson and Blanchard are considered the most successful as all four members held championships during their 1988 reign of terror.
12. In addition to being members of the WWE Hall of Fame, what do Mr. Perfect, Yokozuna, Eddie Guerrero and "High Chief" Peter Maivia have in common?

Answer: They were all inducted posthumously

Over the years, wrestling like so many other forms of entertainment has had its share of tragedy. So many stars who have brought us fans so many exciting and thrilling matches and moments have met an untimely demise. Unfortunately some of these stars have died before the WWE could honor them within their special Hall of Fame.

The late Curt Hennig aka Mr Perfect who was inducted in 2007 and "Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero who was inducted in 2006 were two of the absolute best performers in the business.

The 600 pound Yokozuna was a two time WWE Heavyweight Champion and could move with incredible agility for a man his size. "High Chief" Peter Maivia, grandfather to The Rock, was among the toughest and grittiest competitors of the 1960s and 1970s.

These stars all sadly died a premature death; Guerrero of heart failure in 2005 at 38, Hennig of a drug overdose in 2003 at 44, Yokozuna of heart failure in 2000 at 34 and Maivia of stomach cancer at age 47 in 1982. Four greats lost entirely too soon.
13. The following competitors listed below were all part of the wrestling explosion in the WWE during the mid-1980s. However, one of them was inducted in 2009, who was it?

Answer: Koko B. Ware

In the mid-1980s, WWE head Vince McMahon decided to take his company worldwide and thus began signing the best talent from rival promotions. A former two-time WWE Heavyweight Champion and an Intercontinental Champion, Randy Savage was a major draw for nearly a decade. Managed by Jimmy Hart, the obnoxious Honky Tonk Man claimed to be the greatest WWE Intercontinental Champion of all time and even though he wasn't popular the fans loved to see him get his lumps.

A former WWE Tag Team Champion, Brutus Beefcake became a "barber" in 1987 and began giving haircuts and head shaves to fallen foes thus making him a perennial favorite.

However it is the colorful "Birdman" Koko B Ware who thrilled fans with his macaw "Frankie" and his charisma who was honored in 2009 with a spot in the Hall, ironically it was Honky Tonk Man who inducted his longtime friend into the institution.
14. As the years have passed the inductees have really mounted up to an elite list of whose who in the wrestling business. Although they don't play as big a role in the business as in the past, several managers are in this cherished institution. This manager was inducted in 1996, his nickname was "The Guiding Light". Who is it?

Answer: Captian Lou Albano

While all the aforementioned managers are members of the Hall, it was the incomparable Captain Lou Albano who was inducted in 1996 and referred to as "The Guiding Light". A heel manager for much of his career the eccentric Albano's greatest success came with tag teams as he managed some 17 duos to The WWE Tag Team Championship.

Some of his more notable tandems were The Blackjacks, The Valiant Brothers, The Moondogs, The Samoans and The Yukon Lumberjacks. In early 1985 Lou made a surprising face turn and spent the last two years of his storied career managing the likes of The British Bulldogs and Hillbilly Jim. Sadly, The Captain passed in 2009 of heart failure at the age of 76 but his memory like so many others lives on.
15. In a sort of tongue-in-cheek or comedic approach, the WWE Hall of Fame has had numerous celebrities that have been enshrined. These people have at some point been involved at some level with the WWE. Which celebrity was not added into the Hall?

Answer: Sylvester Stallone

The former baseball player Pete Rose has appeared at several "Wrestlemanias" and has a running feud with Kane. In most instances Rose usually is running off at the mouth when the monster Kane appears and cleans his clock. In 1986, William "The Refrigerator" Perry, in addition to winning a Superbowl with the Chicago Bears, appeared at "Wrestlemania" II in a twenty man Battle Royal. Mr. T also appeared at "Wrestlemania II" where he boxed legend Roddy Piper.

This was a continuation of their rivalry which had started at the first "Wrestlemania". Perry was inducted in 2006, Mr T in 2014, and Pete Rose in 2004, while Sylvester Stallone is not a member of this institution.
