Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The easiest way to get wet and wild is with water! The last move in a match is called the finishing move, and when a fighter uses a signature move, it is often given a name. Any finishing move with the word "splash" involves throwing an opponent into the water.

Answer: False

There is no finishing move that actually requires water to perform it. Finishing moves require dexterity and skill and must be repeatable in different settings. Moves like the "450 Splash", "frog splash" or "corner splash" all involve rushing at your opponent and "splashing" them with your stomach or full body.

The dive is often performed from a height or with a running start, but no water is needed. There is a very funny video of some guys trying to perform classic WWE finishing moves while in the water.

It's harder than it looks!
2. Not all WWE matches take place in a traditional venue, some are actually based in other locales. Which of the following locale-based fights is finished when the winner throws his/her opponent into the water?

Answer: A harbor brawl

As its name suggests, a harbor brawl takes place on the docks. The wrestlers battle near the water and the first wrestler to either win by knockout or throw his/her opponent in the water is declared the winner. A southside scuffle is a fight in a back alley surrounded by other wrestlers.

A junkyard match takes place in a dump and often involves throwing strange items at one's opponent. A barroom brawl takes place, as you would expect, in a bar or tavern.
3. A popular type of WWE wrestling match is the "substance match", in which the wrestling canvas is replaced by a container of some type of liquid, like mud. Which of the following liquids has NOT been used in a "substance match"?

Answer: Gasoline

It would be very dangerous to wrestle in a pool of gasoline! Eggnog matches (like Stacy Keibler v. Torrie Wilson on Dec. 24, 2001) and gravy matches (like Trish Stratus v. Stacy Keibler on Nov. 22, 2001) are usually holiday related. One famous chocolate pudding match was between Candice Michelle and Melina on June 3, 2007. No matter what the substance, the fighters (and sometimes the audience in the ringside seats) can use a nice hot shower or bath to clean up afterwards.
4. Some WWE matches involve props. Traditional rivals Torrie Wilson and Candice Michelle took part in the first ever "Wet and Wild" match on June 12, 2006. What were NOT among the props they fought with?

Answer: Fire hydrants

The winner of the match, Torrie Wilson, got to be on the cover of the WWE 2006 "Summer Special" magazine. After the match, the two wrestlers no longer seemed to be in conflict and often appeared together as friends. Maybe the water match washed away their problems!
5. Season Three of "WWE NXT" (the show that gives wrestling hopefuls their chance to get discovered and become stars) had the theme song "You Make the Rain Fall". Who performed this single, which was first released in 2010?

Answer: Kevin Rudolf

"You Make the Rain Fall" was the second single from Kevin Rudolf's second album, "To the Sky". Strangely enough, it actually debuted at number 94 on the Canadian Hot 100 chart nearly two months before it was released! "WWE NXT" Season 3 first aired between September and November of 2010.
6. The wrestlers and the audience aren't the only ones who get wet in a substance match. Which non-fighter(s) got thrown into the mud during Trish Stratus and Stacy Keibler's mud match in August 2009?

Answer: Both Announcer Howard Finkel and Referee Charles Robinson

Luckily this type of "gimmick" match has fallen out of favor in the WWE world. After the fight, Charles Robinson and Trish Stratus had to go to the hospital to get their eyes washed because of the mud that had gotten into them.
7. Katarina Waters is a German-born wrestler who has spent time in both WWE and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA). Of the following ring names, which is NOT one that she has used?

Answer: Waterboard

Katarina Waters has used several ring names, including several which would be considered different versions of her given name, such as Katie Lea and Kat. When performing for WWE, Waters used the name "Katie Lea", and she used the name "Winter" while performing for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA). "Nikita" was used for her time in the Frontier Wrestling Alliance (FWA).
8. In another match that didn't let bystanders remain dry, RAW in August 2001, Kurt Angle surprised the Alliance (led by Stone Cold Austin) by driving a small truck into the arena and throwing cartons of what into the ring?

Answer: Milk

After initially throwing several cartons of milk into the ring, Kurt then turned a fire hose on everyone. The scene ended with Kurt sitting on top of the milk truck dousing himself with, and drinking, the same milk.

Stone Cold had previously pulled a similar "stunt" with a beer truck, and there was plenty of net chatter about who did it better, Kurt Angle or Stone Cold Austin. We'll leave that up to you to decide!
9. What wet substance covering a wrestler's face will give rise to the "crimson mask" effect?

Answer: Blood

Wrestlers sometimes resort to blading (also known as juicing), which is the practice of purposefully cutting their bodies to produce bleeding. The forehead is a favorite for this type of cut. The blood tends to mix with the sweat on the wrestler's face, producing an effect commonly called the "crimson mask". Please don't try this at home!
10. There was talk in 2008 of a WWE event to determine the female wrestling champ of all time through a jello match. This event NEVER actually took place.

Answer: True

The match was to have been between Chynna and Ashley, and it never came about. This may be due to the fact that WWE has begun to be more of a family event, and the former focus on sexy events involving scantily-clad well-endowed female wrestlers is not as common.
