Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Before Ashleigh arrived at Townsend Acres her parents owned their own breeding farm for Thoroughbred race horses. What was that farm called?

Answer: Edgardale

Edgardale was the farm belonging to Ashleigh's parents when a virus swept through killing many of the horses. Insurance didn't cover the losses, so the farm was sold and Ashleigh's parents sought employment elsewhere.
2. Ashleigh has two siblings. Her older sister's name is Caroline, but what is her younger brother's name?

Answer: Rory

Ashleigh's parents are Derek and Elaine Griffen and complete the rest of her immediate family.
3. Who is Wonder's dam?

Answer: Townsend Holly

Wonder was the last of the foals by Townsend Holly.
4. At Townsend Acres the head trainer's name is ______ and the assistant trainer's name is _____.

Answer: Kenneth Maddock and Jim Jennings

Ken Maddock was hired to replace Charlie Burke who had been asked to retire only a few years before the Griffens moved to Townsend Acres. Jim Jennings was hired by Maddock and put in charge of the two year olds just after Wonder was born. This irritated Charlie quite a bit.
5. Wonder is born the day before the Kentucky Derby.

Answer: True

Wonder was born on a Friday. The next day was the first Saturday in May. Townsend Victor was running in the Derby that day and came in second when he was expected to win the race. This added to a slightly negative tone over the farm which was already brooding since Holly had Wonder as a sickly little foal who was not expected to survive.
6. Charlie is a very scrappy looking old man always seen wearing baggy clothes and what on his head?

Answer: A floppy hat

Charlie was often seen doing many things to his hat. In anger he'd pull it off his head and pound it with his fists, or sometimes he'd slap it on his knee in joyous disbelief.
7. Ashleigh is finishing which grade the spring that Wonder is born?

Answer: 6th

Ashleigh meets many new people on her first day in the sixth grade having just moved to this new school. Among her new friends is Linda March who becomes one of Ashleigh's best friends.
8. Linda March, Ashleigh's best friend at school, is involved in what sport at school?

Answer: Tennis

Linda is one of the best players on the 6th grade tennis team.
9. Wonder begins a special diet which includes "creep feeding" to help her grow faster. How old is she when Charlie and Ashleigh start this?

Answer: Two months old

Ordinarily foals start creep feeding when they're about three months old, but Charlie recommends that Wonder start it when she is two months old to help her catch up to the other foals.
10. Who manages the stallion barn at Townsend Acres?

Answer: Tom O'Brien

The stallions under Tom's care include Townsend Pride and Barbero.
