Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What color is Violet's famous ribbon?

Answer: Black

Violet's hair ribbon, given to her by her late mother, reflects a great deal about Violet's own personality: a plain, no-frills, black ribbon she uses to keep the hair out of her eyes while she's spot-welding. Violet has gone on record stating her abhorrence of anything pink and lacy; "Function over fashion".
2. Which of these would Sunny probably find most enjoyable to bite?

Answer: Whole walnuts

While Sunny has frequently been seen eating raw carrots, she typically prefers to bite the hardest thing in sight. Her four, very sharp, teeth have time and again proven their superhuman durability. (She once de-barked several trees for a lumbermill using nothing but her pearly whites!)
3. What, according to Uncle Monty, must you keep away from a Virginian Woolfsnake at all costs?

Answer: a typewriter

This was, quite possibly, my favorite joke in the entire series!
4. What form of code is Count Olaf particularly fond of using?

Answer: Anagrams

There is evidence that Olaf has been using anagrams as a means of disguise since before the schism. "Al Funcoot", "(Dr.) Flacutono", and "(Mr.) O. Lucafont" are all anagrams of his name used by himself and his henchmen; the last name of his character "Shirley" is an anagram for "receptionist"; and once, when Olaf kidnapped Violet in a hospital, he used an anagram of her name on the patient list in an attempt to conceal her location from her siblings.
5. What substance was used to form the letters on the sign outside Lucky Smells Lumbermill?

Answer: Chewing gum

The sign was written with the leftovers of all the lunches ever served at Lucky Smells; workers were given one stick apiece and allowed five minutes' chewing time at noon. Mr. Snicket once wrote that it was the second-most disgusting sign he has ever seen, its superior having been made entirely from human skulls. (The inordinate number of issues of "The Daily Punctilio" sitting out front were, in fact, the official newspaper library for V.F.D.)
6. The "Daily Punctilio"'s motto, "All the news in fits of print", is a pun based on the motto for which world-famous newspaper?

Answer: The New York Times

The actual motto for the New York Times reads: "All the news that's fit to print".
7. What is Aunt Josephine's last name?

Answer: Anwhistle

Her late husband's brother, Gregor, ran Anwhistle Aquatics, a remote marine testing facility used by V.F.D. As well as being yet another unfortunate building to fall victim to a "mysterious" fire, Anwhistle Aquatics is believed to be the birthplace of the Medusoid Mycelium.
8. How old does Klaus turn during their stay in the Village of Fowl Devotees?

Answer: Thirteen

At the beginning of "A Series of Unfortunate Events", Violet is fourteen, Klaus is twelve, and Sunny is a toddler (her age is never given exactly).
9. For what skill, besides biting things, does Sunny display an aptitude?

Answer: Cooking

In "The Carnivorous Carnival" Sunny, disguised as "Chabo the Wolf Baby", takes her first step towards culinary mastery by adding a sprig of cinnamon to hot chocolate. Mr. Snicket seems to emphasize food's importance in human culture, often going on long diatribes about the properties of whole clove garlic, the onion, shallots, and (most notably) the caper.
10. To what mysterious woman are all of Mr. Snicket's books dedicated?

Answer: Beatrice

Beatrice is easily the most provocative and elusive character in the series. Although she never actually appears in the story, and is almost never mentioned by name, she becomes extremely vital to the story as a whole. Mr. Snicket has made Beatrice the catalyst for, and conclusion of, his entire series as well as his personal, miserable muse.
