Cats and people have been around each other for thousands of years, and because of this there are many beliefs and superstitions about them. Over the years they have been thought to be everything from a god to a witch's familiar. Cats make good pets and there are over 500 million domesticated cats all over the world.
A grown female cat is called a queen, while a grown male cat is called a tomcat.
2. This little monkey is called a name we sometimes use for a human baby. What is he called?

Answer: an infant

Male monkeys are called males and female monkeys are called females. Their babies are called infants, just like humans. There are 264 known species of monkeys and they live in troops in South and Central America, Africa and parts of Asia. The only place that monkeys can be found in the wild in Europe is in Gibraltar and in North America they can only be found in Mexico.

Hippopotamuses live in the parts of Africa south of the Sahara Desert. They are the third largest land animal in the world, smaller only than elephants and rhinoceroses. This ranking does not include marine mammals like whales.
Hippopotamuses live in pods and spend a large part of their day in the water, so they are often found near large water sources like rivers and water holes. Staying in the water helps keep them cool and keeps their skin from drying out.
A grown male hippopotamus is called a bull.

Squirrels are considered rodents, and gray squirrels usually have white fur on their chests and bellies, and grey fur on their back and tails. Black squirrels are a variation of the Eastern Gray Squirrel.

Like people, adult gorillas are called males and females, and babies are infants. They can be found in central Africa, in the forests there. There are two types of gorillas, Eastern Gorillas and Western Gorillas. Some of the Eastern Gorillas live in the mountains.
Gorillas are very social animals and live in troops of 5 to 30 gorillas, with each troop being led by a dominant male. Gorillas live for 30-50 years.

There are many different kinds of ducks all over the world. In fact ducks can even be found on some of the islands of Antarctica, in summer. The name is used to cover a variety of water birds, and the name comes from the way the many of the species duck under the water to feed.
Male ducks are called drakes, females are ducks and babies are ducklings. The groups they live in have been called by many names, including flocks, braces, paddlings and rafts.

Other names for cougars are mountain lions, pumas and panthers. They have also been called catamounts or mountain cats. Adult males are called lions, females are called lionesses and babies are called cubs.
Cougars live mostly in the western parts of North America, Central America and South America. Cougars used to live across North America, and occasionally there are claims of cougar sightings in the eastern parts of North America.
Cougars tend to be solitary animals, except for during the breeding season.

Baby horses of less than a year are called foals. Once they are older than a year, but are still under four years old, females are called fillies and males are called colts. Adult male horses are called stallions and females are called mares.
There are many different kinds of horses, of varying sizes, colours and marking, around the world, and they have been domesticated for thousands of years. In fact there are very few wild horses left in the world.
9. This little lamb is looking for his mother. What would you call his mother?

Answer: a ewe

An adult, female sheep can also be called a dam, while a male can be called a buck or a ram. The babies are called lambs, lambkins or cossets.
Sheep are believed to be one of the earliest animals to be domesticated, with evidence of domestic sheep dating back about 11,000 years ago.
10. This baby ostrich is called a chick. What continent does the ostrich come from?

Answer: Africa

Ostriches are the largest living birds, standing up to almost three metres tall. They also lay the largest eggs. They are not able to fly, but they are the fastest of all birds, able to reach running speeds of 70 km per hour.
Female ostriches are called hens, males are called cocks and although they usually live in pairs, when they do live in groups they are called flocks.
They are native to Africa where they eat mostly seeds, grass and fruit and some insects.
