Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Why did Marilla and Matthew have second thoughts about letting Anne stay in Green Gables?

Answer: They asked for a boy

Well, of course they let her stay, eventually. It was fun reading about that.
2. Anne comes to Green Gables after having lived with Mrs. Hammond and Mrs. Thomas. Mrs. Hammond had three sets of what?

Answer: Twins

Those of you who have read "Anne of Avonlea", know that later on Marilla adopted two twins (boy and girl) after their mother died. So it seems as if Anne never has enough of twins :-)
3. Where does the whole story take place?

Answer: Avonlea, Prince Edward Island, Canada

Tara, Georgia is where "Gone With the Wind" by Margaret Mitchell takes place. That one is a good book, too!
4. Anne's best friend is Diana Barry. What is Diana's little sister's name?

Answer: Minnie May Barry

When Minnie May got sick with the croup, Anne saved her life. That is one of my favourite parts in the book.
5. How are Marilla and Matthew related?

Answer: They are siblings

Of course they are siblings, although many readers think they are married.
6. You will probably get this wrong if you haven't read the other books in the series. Who is Anne's future husband?

Answer: Gilbert Blythe

Interesting how at first she hated him, but eventually fell in love with him (that happens in the book "Anne of the Island", which is the third in the series).
7. Anne studied at Queens Academy to become what?

Answer: A teacher

She was sad because Diana Barry didn't go to Queen's, but she met new friends and had some of her other Avonlea friends with her, so it turned out okay.
8. What character died in the book?

Answer: Matthew

Matthew died of a heart attack, after reading in the newspaper about the collapse of the bank where all their money was deposited.
9. Who saved Anne's life when she nearly drowned?

Answer: Gilbert Blythe

She and her friends were acting out "Elaine" by Tennyson, and Anne was supposed to play Elaine and sail on the lake lying down in a flat. The flat had a hole in it, and started sinking. Well, luckily Anne found something to hold on to, which was the bottom of the bridge, but she couldn't get off. Fortunately Gilbert came in his dad's boat and got her off.
10. Where is Queen's Academy located?

Answer: Charlottetown

Anne visited Diana's aunt Josephine when she was in Charlottetown, so she wasn't very lonely, but she was still homesick.
