Answer: Egypt

The Nile has been very important for Egypt because it floods once a year and the water makes the land fertile so that the people can grow food. People would not have been able to start living in Egypt without the help of the Nile. The pyramids are tall pointed tombs for the pharaohs (kings) of Egypt. They are very old; some of them are as old as 4000 years.
2. Where does pizza as we know it today originally come from?

Answer: Italy

Pizza was originally a cheap meal for poor people being just a flat bread with a tomato topping. As the years went by many other toppings were added. In the second World War many allied soldiers were stationed in Italy, and came to love pizza, so now it is available in many other countries of the world.
3. To which country is the kangaroo native?

Answer: Australia

Kangaroos are the largest of the marsupial family of animals. Kangaroos have very big feet and strong back legs because they travel by leaping in the air. The mother kangaroo has a pouch of skin on her front where her babies can stay safe.

Answer: China

The Chinese first had fireworks about 2000 years ago. China still makes and exports more fireworks than any other country in the world.

The Black Forest is a large area in south west Germany. As well as the gateau, which is a layered chocolate sponge cake with cherries and cream, the Black Forest is well known for carvings in dark wood, especially of bears.

Far more important than Christmas in Scotland is Hogmanay which is the last day of the year. Sometimes the celebrations go on until 2nd January which is a public holiday in Scotland. There is a tradition called first footing where a man calls at the house just after midnight and brings a piece of coal, shortbread, whiskey and salt. This is to bring luck for the whole year.

Abraham Lincoln was sixteenth President of the United States. He was born in a one-roomed log cabin and became a lawyer and then President. He led the north during the American Civil War.
8. In which country would you see the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace?

The changing of the guard takes place every day for about four to six weeks in summer at Buckingham Palace in London, England, where the British Queen Elizabeth II lives. For the rest of the year, it takes place in London for four days per week and at Windsor Castle for the other three. It has been taking place since the year 1660.
9. Where would you see the beautiful Taj Mahal?

Answer: India

The Taj Mahal was built in 1631 by Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal who was a Persian princess. It was completed in 1642 and the gardens took about five years longer. Mumtaz and Shah Jahan had fourteen children together.
10. Mark Twain wrote books about Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. In which country did these characters live?

Answer: U.S.A.

Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn lived near the Mississippi River, and have many adventures. Mark Twain was really called Samuel Langhorne Clemens but when he worked as a Mississippi boatman he was nicknamed Mark Twain, because this was the river call for a depth of water of two fathoms.
