Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What were Peter and Molly shopping for when they first stumbled across the wishing chair?

Answer: A birthday present for their mother

In the very first chapter of the book, Peter and Molly stumbled upon an adventure whilst looking for a birthday present for their mother. As they waited patiently for a piece of paper to wrap their mother's present in, an angry wizard locked them in, and demanded that they help him find a red fox that had escaped from a box. Frightened, the children sat down in an old chair, which suddenly rose into the air and flew out of the window, rescuing them from the angry wizard and his pixie assistant.
2. How did Peter and Molly become such good friends with Chinky the pixie?

Answer: They saved him from being a servant to a cruel giant

Peter and Molly first met Chinky the pixie when, (with the help of the wishing chair), they helped him escape the clutches of the cruel giant who had enslaved him. From then on, he and the children became firm friends, so much so, that Chinky was allowed to live in Peter and Molly's playroom. He was also the one who let the children know when the wishing chair grew wings, and they went on many exciting adventures together.
3. How did Chinky the pixie not injure himself when he fell from the wishing chair?

Answer: He transformed himself into a snowflake

Once, on one of many of Peter and Molly's adventures, Chinky the pixie fell from the wishing chair while it was flying high in the sky. The children were dreadfully worried, and although they searched high and low, they could not find him anywhere. However they need not have worried, as they later discovered that Chinky had simply turned himself into "a big snowflake and fell into the Buttercup Field".
4. When the trio visited the Land of Dreams, Molly and Chinky the pixie were transformed into balloons.

Answer: True

As Peter, Molly and Chinky the pixie found out for themselves, The Land of Dreams is a very peculiar and frightening place. Just like in dreams, nothing remained "the same" for "two minutes running" and many strange things occurred. Luckily for the trio, despite Molly and Chinky the pixie being transformed into balloons, everything returned to normal once the wishing-chair brought them home.
5. What is the name of the witch who stole Peter and Molly's cat?

Answer: Witch Kirri-Kirri

Witch Kirri-Kirri stole the children's cat, Whiskers, after the wishing chair flew off with her curled up on its seat. As Whiskers was a black cat, Witch Kirri-Kirri took her so that she could help the witch with her spells. The children and Chinky the pixie then had to rescue poor Whiskers by pretending to be mice, before whisking her off home in the wishing chair.
6. What was odd and unusual about Witch Snippit's house?

Answer: It spun around like a roundabout

When the wishing chair was made invisible by the cloud goblin, Chinky took Peter and Molly to see Witch Snippit in order to make it visible again. However they had a difficult time entering the witch's house, as it "had one leg, like a short pole", and "spun round and round" like a merry-go-round at the fairground. However they did manage to enter it eventually, and Witch Snippet gave them some magic paint, which made the wishing chair viewable again.
7. What present did Molly find under her pillow the morning after Magician Greatheart's party?

Answer: A beaded necklace that looked just like bubbles

As Peter and Molly agreed to let two elves borrow their wishing chair in order to attend Magician Greatheart's party, they and Chinky were also invited along. The party was wonderful, and just before leaving, each guest was given an egg, which they were told would hatch the following morning. The next day, Molly found a necklace under her pillow, Peter received a "tiny silver watch, ticking away merrily", and Chinky received "golden buckles for his shoes".
8. How did Peter and Molly get the wishing chair back, once their mother had placed it in the study?

Answer: They scratched its legs, and tore and spilt ink on the seat

Peter and Molly were horrified when their mother took the wishing chair into the house, and placed it in the study. In order to get it back, they decided to "spill things" on it, "tear the seat" and "scratch the legs", so that it would become too shabby to be kept in the house. Their plan worked well, and the wishing chair was returned to the playroom, but poor Peter and Molly were also punished for their bad behaviour.
9. What type of head did the Snoogle have?

Answer: The head of a duck

When the children's mother's ring went missing, Big-Ears the goblin told them that although it was he who originally stole it, he had given it to the Snoogle. The trio then arrived at the Snoogle's castle, and were astonished by his appearance. For the Snoogle was a very peculiar creature, with "the body of a dragon, the tail of a cat always twirling and twisting, and the head of a yellow duck".
10. What did the Snoogle do to the wishing chair that prevented Peter, Molly and Chinky from escaping his castle?

Answer: He pecked off the wishing chair's wings

In order to stop the three adventurers from escaping, the Snoogle destroyed the wishing chair's wings, by pecking them off. This left the trio trapped in the Snoogle's castle, as there was no way of crossing the moat that surrounded it. Luckily for Chinky and the children, the magic chair grew new wings, and they were soon on their way home with Peter and Molly's mother's ring.
