Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Whereabouts does Eeyore live?

Answer: South-East of the Hundred Acre Wood

Referred to on the map as "Eeyore's gloomy place, rather boggy and sad", Eeyore lived in a thistly part of the forest. He said that "for people who like cold, wet, ugly bits it is something rather special."

The real-life Eeyore was a stuffed toy, 25 inches tall. Christopher Robin Milne received him as a gift from his father. Eeyore now lives with his friends in the New York Public Library.
2. When Eeyore lost his tail, where did Pooh find it?

Answer: Owl was using it as a bell-rope.

Owl saw this handsome bell-rope hanging over a bush, and pulled it to see who lived there. When it came off in his hand (do owls have hands?) he took it home with him. Luckily Pooh rescued it, and Christopher Robin nailed it back in its rightful place. Eeyore was so pleased that he frisked and waved his tail - very unusual for him, as he tends to prefer moping and staring at the ground.
3. When we first meet Eeyore in "Winnie-the-Pooh", Pooh greets him with a cheery "how are you?" How does Eeyore respond?

Answer: Not very how.

"It's snowing still" was how Eeyore responded to Christopher Robin's caring "how are you?" in the first chapter of "The House at Pooh Corner". "Same to you..." was his response to Pooh's "Hello" in the same chapter.
4. Which of these did Eeyore not receive for his birthday?

Answer: He received all these presents.

Eeyore was miserable because he thought everyone had forgotten his birthday, so Pooh and Piglet tried to cheer him up. Piglet unfortunately burst the red balloon he wanted to give to Eeyore, and Pooh greedily ate all the honey in the pot. However, Eeyore was delighted with the Useful Pot and the small damp rag, and was "as happy as can be" with them. Later that day, Christopher Robin gave him "a box of paints to paint things with" as well as a party with "a cake with icing on top, and three candles, and his name in pink sugar."
5. True or false? During the Expotition to the North Pole, Eeyore was the last in the procession?

Answer: false

He was happy (well, as happy as Eeyore can be) to be at the end, but instead was followed by a long line of Rabbit's friends-and-relations. Eeyore was concerned that he would have to brush away half a dozen small animals every time he wanted to sit down.
6. During the Expotition to the North Pole, Eeyore said that he would just as happily... do what?

Answer: Play 'Here we go gathering Nuts and May'.

Eeyore doesn't care what he does, as he is convinced that everything is bound to turn out badly anyway: "That's just what would happen". Eeyore always expects the worst, and often appears disappointed when it doesn't happen.
7. What kind of flowers does Piglet pick for Eeyore?

Answer: violets

"It suddenly came over him that nobody had ever picked Eeyore a bunch of violets, and the more he thought of this, the more he thought how sad it was to be an Animal who had never had a bunch of violets picked for him." Despite Eeyore's constant rudeness to the others, including Piglet, they obviously do care for him a great deal.
8. How did Eeyore come to be floating in the river?

Answer: Tigger bounced him.

Pooh and Piglet were playing Poohsticks, and thought Eeyore was a big grey stick. He was floating along "looking very calm, very dignified, with his legs in the air". Tigger denied bouncing him into the river, and claimed to have only said "Grrrr-oppp-ptschschschz".
9. What happened after Eeyore was rescued from the river?

Answer: He beat the others at Poohsticks.

Once the others had dried him with Piglet's handkerchief, they all played Poohsticks. Eeyore won "more times than anybody else" and then became friends with Tigger by teaching him "How to Win at Poohsticks".
10. Which animal does Eeyore say would be missed, if he blew away in a strong wind?

Answer: Piglet

Eeyore clearly has a soft spot for Piglet. When Piglet says that the broken balloon was "about as big as me", Eeyore says that it is his favourite size. Later, in "The House at Pooh Corner", Eeyore warns Piglet not to get blown away by the wind. "You'd be missed. People would say 'Where's little Piglet been blown to?' - really wanting to know." This is one of the few kind things that Eeyore says, and proves that he is not entirely negative.
11. How does Eeyore spell his own name?

Answer: eor

The animals all signed their names to the Rissolution, which was the poem written by Eeyore to say goodbye to Christopher Robin. Eeyore readily admitted that his poem was much better than Pooh's, although he did struggle with the rhyme scheme.
12. Which form of bad weather does Eeyore regularly forecast?

Answer: rain

Eeyore frequently predicts rain. For example, at Pooh's party following the Great Flood, he warns Roo that "It will rain soon, you see if it doesn't," and asks "don't blame me if it rains."

Eeyore's pessimism, cynicism and sarcasm were toned town to minor depression for the Disney cartoons - much less amusing in my opinion.
13. What was Eeyore's opinion of "this writing business"?

Answer: All of these.

These comments were made at the end of "Winnie-the-Pooh" during Pooh's party. Eeyore thought the party was for him, and when Pooh was presented with a Special Pencil Case, full of different pencils, Eeyore scoffed in his usual manner. Not jealous at all then...
14. Why did Eeyore decide to build himself a house?

Answer: It was cold.

This was during the first chapter of "The House at Pooh Corner". Eeyore went to see Christopher Robin after his new house went missing after a snowstorm. He decided the wind must have blown it away, but in reality, Pooh and Piglet had rebuilt it on the other side of the wood.
15. When Owl's house blows down, where does Eeyore suggest he move to?

Answer: Piglet's house.

All the animals hunt for a new house for Owl, and Eeyore believes he has found the perfect one. None of the others can bring themselves to tell him that it's already Piglet's house, so Piglet moves in with Pooh, and Owl renames Piglet's house "The Wolery". Unfortunately Eeyore sits on the newly-painted sign and smears it.
