Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. He was a very good man who survived a flood.

Answer: Noah

Noah's story can be found in Genesis 6 and 7. According to the Bible, everybody else on Earth was very wicked during Noah's time, but he and his family found favor with God. God told Noah to build an ark to save them from the flood.

Noah had three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Bible believers generally believe that Hebrews descended from Shem, Africans descended from Ham, and Europeans from Japheth.
2. She was Abraham's sister-in-law; that is, his brother's wife.

Answer: Milcah

You can find information about Milcah in Genesis chapters 11, 22, and 24. Milcah was married to Nahor, one of Abraham's brothers.

According to Genesis 24, Milcah was actually Rebekah's grandmother, which also makes her Jacob's great-grandmother, because Rebekah was Jacob's mother.
3. She was Isaac's mother.

Answer: Sarah

Abraham was originally named Abram and his wife was originally Sarai, but God changed her name to Sarah. Sarah became Isaac's mom and she is also considered a mother of the Israelites. You can find details about her in Genesis 17 through 23.

After Sarah died, Keturah, another one with "ah"-ending name, became Isaac's stepmother (Genesis 25).
4. She was Jacob's and Esau's mom.

Answer: Rebekah

Rebekah's story can be found in Genesis 24, 25, and 26. Rebekah, Isaac's wife, was Jacob's and Esau's mom. Along with Sarah, Leah, and Rachel, Rebekah is one of the four mothers of the Israelites.

Please note that a few Bible translations spell her name "Rebecca", but most spell her name as "Rebekah".
5. He was Jacob's and Leah's son. Jacob said that he was like a lion.

Answer: Judah

Details about Judah can be found in Genesis 49. Jacob predicted that Judah would be like a lion.

According to the New Testament, Jesus descended from the tribe of Judah. Christians believe that Jacob's words were fulfilled by Jesus, because the book of Revelation calls Jesus the Lion of Judah.
6. She consecrated her son, Samuel, to live for God.

Answer: Hannah

Hannah's story can be found in 1 Samuel, chapters 1 and 2. Hannah prayed to God and He gave her Samuel. As a "thank you" to God, she dedicated him to the temple, where he lived with the priest, Eli. Hannah visited Samuel yearly.

The name Hannah means "grace" and is actually the Old Testament version of Anna, which appears in the New Testament.
7. He was Elisha's teacher and the evil Jezebel's enemy.

Answer: Elijah

You can read about Elijah and Jezebel in 1 Kings 17, 18, and 19. Jezebel hated God's prophets, which included Elijah.

2 Kings chapter 2 tells about Elijah and Elisha. Before Elijah was taken to Heaven by a chariot, Elisha asked him for his mantle or his spirit. While Elijah was Elisha's teacher, he apparently was like a father to him as well. As Elijah went up in the sky, Elisha shouted, "My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and its horsemen!" (2 Kings 2:12, New American Standard Bible).
8. She was a prophetess and a leader of Israel.

Answer: Deborah

You can read about Deborah in Judges chapters 4 and 5. She was a prophetess and Israel's only female judge. Judges weren't kings or queens, but they were still leaders.

Interestingly, Judges 4:5 states that Deborah sat underneath the tree of Deborah when she judged. This tree wasn't her tree; it actually was named after a different Deborah. See Genesis 35:8. The other Deborah was Rebekah's nurse.
9. He wrote about a child called Immanuel.

Answer: Isaiah

Isaiah 7:14 mentions Immanuel, a child born as a sign. The name Immanuel means "God with us" and Christians believe that it refers to Jesus, whom Christians believe was literally God with us--that is, God living with other human beings as a human being.

Jews, however, interpret the verse differently. Some Jews believe that the prophet Isaiah was predicting the birth of his own son.
10. He spent three days in a fish!

Answer: Jonah

According to the book of Jonah, God told him to go to Nineveh and preach to the people there, but he refused to. As a punishment, Jonah had to spend three whole days in the belly of a huge fish. The Bible doesn't give any hints regarding what type of fish it was.

The "Ancient History Encyclopedia" states that Nineveh was located in what is now Mosul, Iraq.
