Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What condition did Jalil have?

Answer: Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

Right at the beginning of the story, Jalil admitted that he had Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, or OCD. He was washing his hands over and over again- his brain made him. Jalil's number was seven- he could not walk away from the sink until he had washed his hands seven times. The one thing he loved about Everworld was the fact that his OCD did not seem to exist.
2. Jalil said his name meant what in Hindi?

Answer: God-like

Jalil mentioned that everyone assumed his name was from African decent, but it was actually Hindi. It meant "god-like," which Jalil knew was ironic. He was a young, weak human stuck in Everworld, a world ruled by actual gods.
3. April sang to village people to earn food. How did Jalil earn his food?

Answer: He told fairy tales

Jalil did not like singing (April even went as far to accuse him of lip-synching), so he told famous fairy tales to the residents of Everworld. He told them about Snow White and Hansel and Gretel. Because of Jalil and his friend's performances, they earned a place to sleep for two nights as well as bread and rotten apples.
4. What food did the kids not eat while walking through the forest?

Answer: Rabbit

At the beginning of the book, Jalil, Christopher, David, and April had been in Everworld for weeks. They pretended to be minstrels for food. The kids ate anything they could get their hands on, including acorns. They attempted to catch a pig to eat, but they almost died in the process.

In fact, the pig spoke and threatened to kill them all unless they handed over the rotten apples they had earned.
5. This was the first time the kids' main catchphrase was uttered. What was it?

Answer: "Welcome to Everworld"

Jalil described the saying "Welcome to Everworld" as their all-purpose phrase. He said that his friends had given up on trying to figure Everworld out. Truly, there was no rhyme or reason to it- days didn't seem to be 24 hours long and it contained dozens of different worlds.

Whenever something unusual happened, the kids would simply say "W.T.E.," or 'Welcome to Everworld." The kids used this phrase often in the series.
6. What was David able to take into the city?

Answer: Galahad's sword

The city's guards demanded the kids hand over their weapons. When David begrudgingly handed over Galahad's sword, the guard's hand was burned badly. Nobody but the kids could wield the sword. Because Hel was such a powerful goddess, the guards assumed it would be safe for them to take the sword inside of the city limits.
7. Who did Hel seem most interested in?

Answer: Jalil

Hel had absolutely no interest in April- she didn't even want her to come into her town. She hated the fact that April was a beauty. She seemed to want Jalil the most. Hel called Jalil both solemn and gloomy. Her goal, along with Christopher and David, was to drive him into madness.
8. How did Senna get into the Underworld?

Answer: She was disguised as a man

Jalil and the others learned something else about Senna: she had the power to change her appearance. When Senna ran away from Merlin earlier in the series, she was lost in the woods. She spotted Hel's guards and turned herself into a young, strong-looking man. It was a mistake, because the guards were looking for young men, not young girls.
9. Why did Senna want to work with Hel?

Answer: For protection

Senna was taken into Hel's city forcefully. When she realized that neither Loki nor Merlin could step into the Underworld, she wanted to work with Hel. She would be protected from the two men who wanted to get to her. Eventually she wanted to take over the Underworld and gain power, but Hel saw through her lies.
10. Which of the following did Jalil not learn about Hel?

Answer: She was once human

While Jalil was in Everworld, the real-world Jalil did some research. Loki had three children: a giant wolf named Fenrir, Hel, and the Midgard Serpent, also known as Jormungand. The Christians adopted the word "hell" from her name, for good reason. She ruled her part of the Underworld and conjured up horrible ways of torture.
