1. What is the name of the visitor who joins the children for tea at the beginning of the book?

Answer: Mrs Layman

 Mrs Layman tells the children about her beautiful little house on the hill that overlooks the bay. She invites the children to stay there for a few weeks with her Grandson whilst she looks after her cousin who is ill. She is a very friendly person whom the children like very much!
2. What is the name of Mrs Layman's Grandson?

Answer: Wilfred

 Wilfred is particularly difficult when the children first arrive at the cottage, although after a while befriends the children and decides to offer to help them arrange the house. He is marvellous with animals and likes Timmy very much!
3. Who tells the children the tale of Whispering Island?

Answer: Lucas

 Lucas works on a golf course and is delighted to tell the children about the intriguing little island. The five are thrilled to hear its exciting old story and the tale of the treasure that is said to still be hidden there!
4. What is the name of the boat the children decide to hire?

Answer: Adventure

 The children all feel like sailing so Georgina asks to hire a boat. Unfortunately, the tide is very strong and they are unable to row against it. They eventually end up shipwrecked on Whispering Island...

 Deciding to explore, the five search Whispering Woods and are amazed to discover the vast collection of old statues, carefully hidden there! They assume they are being kept on the island until they are ready to be sold.

 The children know they shall soon become thirsty so they begin searching for a clean water supply. Fortunately, Dick discovers a well and offers to slide down the rope with a bucket to collect the water. On his way down he discovers a small door that, much to his surprise, leads to a secret underground entrance!
7. Who arrives on the island, bringing a boat?

Answer: Wilfred

 When Timmy begins to bark uncontrollably the children panic, expecting danger. But they needn't have feared as Wilfred is the only one to have arrived, bringing a good supply of food on board of his boat.

Answer: Timmy

 Georgina and the children are panic-stricken when Timmy swallows the golf ball. Wilfred saves him from choking by reaching down his throat to take it out. Georgina is so overwhelmed with joy she decides to give Wilfred a share of Timmy in return for saving his life.
9. Who discovers another secret entrance?

Answer: Wilfred

 Despite Julian's warning, Wilfred disobeys and decides to take a walk around the island. When he comes to wailing cliffs he is shocked to discover men heading through a secret entrance hidden in the cliff! That night, the five decide to explore and make an extremely exciting discovery...
10. What were the mysterious foreigners doing on Whispering Island?

Answer: smuggling stolen treasures

 As soon as we read that they are foreign, we know they are up to no good - a familiar trope in Enid Blyton's work. Once their plans are discovered, the children sail off to report them to the police, and we are assured that they were efficiently rounded up.
