Answer: A telescope

Susie tells the children that her mother said the telescope HAS TO be shared with her, and her friend Binkie. The children agree to let her use it, but they still won't let her join their meeting.

After Susie leaves, the Secret Seven have fun looking through the telescope over the garden wall. Janet says it's as if she has magic eyes! Janet and Peter's mum warns them that it's getting late and it's cold so they had better think of putting the telescope away. They lock it in the shed and hide the key.

Susie and Binkie caught the bus up to the castle before the Secret Seven arrived. Susie says the dungeon was safe and someone probably made the "danger" sign to keep people from going down there. She spoke to a lady outside who was painting a picture of the castle.

She kept her painting things in the dungeon - Susie saw all the pictures. Susie told the woman what the silly Secret Seven thought they had seen through their telescope.

Susie and Binkie see some lights up at the castle. The woman they spoke to said she didn't sleep there at night. It looks like someone is signalling. They run to tell Peter who doesn't believe them. The Secret Seven decide that their telescope must have been stolen by the people up at the castle, as Susie had told them about it and they didn't want anyone spying on them. The boys go to the castle and try to find the paintings that Susie saw in the dungeon, as well as their telescope.

At first they explore the dungeon but there's nothing there. Underneath a big pile of twigs they find lots of old paintings without their frames, all rolled up.

The woman Susie saw is asleep by the fire. The woman's alarm clock goes off! She goes to the door and starts signalling to someone. Peter worries that the girls will think it's his signal.

Answer: Good old Scamper!

The woman and some men catch the boys and lock them in the dungeon when they find that the paintings are missing! Scamper, who was told to stay at home, has followed their scent right to the castle. He races in, growling fiercely and scaring the bad guys off for a while, then stands guard until Peter's dad arrives with some of his men to deal with the thieves, taking them to the police.

Unfortunately, the telescope was never found (the thieves threw it in the river), but Jack plans to buy a brand new one with his share of the reward money!
