Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The wizards showed some less-than-exemplary behaviour in the beginning of the book, shortly after Lord Voldemort was defeated. Which of these acts did the wizards NOT perform?

Answer: Change the weather to a glorious day for the occasion

"He didn't see the owls swooping past in broad daylight...I promised rain yesterday, but instead, we've had a downpour of shooting stars!...And the old man hugged Mr Dursley around the middle and walked off."

The wizards were celebrating the downfall of the Dark Lord, Voldemort. They were not careful about their actions though.
2. Mr Dursley tried to convince himself that his nephew's name was not Harry Potter. Which of the following names did Mr Dursley NOT think of?

Answer: Harley Potter

"Come to think of it, he'd never seen the boy. His name might have been HARVEY. Or HAROLD...What's his name? HOWARD, is it?".

Mr Dursley didn't want to believe that these weird looking people were talking about his nephew, so he convinced himself that his nephew's name was not "Harry Potter".
3. Mr Dursley went to the baker's to buy a sausage roll on the day of Lord Voldemort's downfall.

Answer: False

"It was on his way back past them, clutching a large DOUGHNUT in a bag, that he caught a few words of what they were saying".

Mr Dursley was hungry and walked down to the baker's to buy something to eat. It is also mentioned that Mr Dursley is quite beefy.
4. Which of these is not a shop in Diagon Alley?

Answer: Dedalus Diggle's Magical Shop for all Magical Needs

Dedalus Diggle is a wizard whom Harry meets in the Leaky Cauldron. He does not own a shop at all! Usually, all the shops in Diagon Alley have a more specific name in them to directly identify what they sell, for example, "Ollivander's, Makers of Fine Wands".
5. Which Weasley promised to send Ginny a Hogwarts toilet seat on Platform Nine and Three Quarters?

Answer: George

"We'll send you a Hogwarts toilet seat."
"George!"

These events took place as Ginny was saying goodbye to her brothers at King's Cross. The Weasleys could see that Ginny was obviously upset being the last child in the family and still not allowed to go to Hogwarts.
6. Who was the second Ravenclaw to be sorted at the Great Feast?

Answer: Mandy Brocklehurst

"Bones, Susan! HUFFLEPUFF!"
"Boot, Terry! RAVENCLAW!"
"Brocklehurst, Mandy! RAVENCLAW!"
"Bulstrode, Millicent! SLYTHERIN!"

This was the order of sorting after Bones, Susan. The sorting happened alphabetically, at the Great Feast, at the beginning of the year.
7. Which of these was not in the song of the Sorting Hat at the Great Feast?

Answer: Give me a try! I'll tell you where you belong!

"...Or perhaps in Slytherin you'll make your real friends, THOSE CUNNING FOLK USE ANY MEANS, to achieve their ends. So put me on! Don't be afraid! And don't get in a flap! YOU'RE IN SAFE HANDS (though I have none) FOR I'M A THINKING CAP!"

The Sorting Hat sings a different song every year and the lines of the song somehow manage to rhyme in every single line. The sorting takes place on the first day of Hogwarts for the first years.
8. What time did Hagrid first want Harry to go to his hut for a cup of tea?

Answer: Friday, 3pm

"I know you get FRIDAY afternoons off, so would you like to come and have a cup of tea with me around THREE?"

Hagrid being the "gentle giant" had been friendly to Harry throughout the book and wanted to know how Harry was coping.
9. Who said this?: "Ooh, sticking up for Longbottom? Never thought you'd like fat little cry babies, Parvati."

Answer: Pansy Parkinson

"'Ooh, standing up for Longbottom?' said PANSY PARKINSON, a hard-faced Slytherin girl, 'Never thought you'd like fat little cry babies, Parvati.'"

This was said at the first flying lesson with Gryffindor and Slytherin, shortly after Neville Longbottom broke his wrist. Shortly afterward, Malfoy stole Neville's remembrall.
10. Gryffindor end up losing five points overall after Harry, Ron and Hermione tackle the mountain troll.

Answer: False

Hermione lost five points for foolishness by pretending she knew how to take on the troll, and Harry and Ron earned five points each for skill, bravery and courage. That equals a gain of five points for Gryffindor.
