Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Of all the things that Harry's Uncle Vernon said to Hagrid, what was the thing that upset him the most?

Answer: Uncle Vernon called Dumbledore 'some crackpot old fool'.

Uncle Vernon did say all of these things, but it was the insult to Dumbledore that enraged Hagrid the most. That's when he gave Dudley a pig's tail.
2. What was unusual about the school song that Dumbledore led everyone in singing after the Sorting Feast?

Answer: Everyone sang it to their own favourite tune.

Because everyone chose their own tune people finished at different times. On this occasion the Weasley twins were the last to finish singing.
3. Whose actions were accidentally responsible for Harry's ultimately being named Seeker to his house's Quidditch team?

Answer: Draco Malfoy

If Draco hadn't thrown Neville's Remembrall then McGonagall would never have seen Harry pull out of a fifty foot dive to catch it. Since Harry had been caught breaking Madame Hooch's edict, Draco expected Harry to be expelled, and was more than a little upset with the outcome.
4. What flavour of 'Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Bean' did Dumbledore end up with?

Answer: Earwax

He'd had a vomit flavoured one when he was younger, and hadn't cared much for them since.
5. When did Hermione really become friends with Harry and Ron?

Answer: After they saved her from the troll.

I can't say it any better than Rowling did. 'There are some things you can't share without ending up liking each other; and knocking out a twelve foot mountain troll is one of them.'
6. What was Harry's Christmas present from his Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon?

Answer: A fifty-pence piece.

Ron was so amazed at seeing muggle money for the first time that Harry let him keep it. Harry did get other, nicer gifts from his new friends, including a wooden flute whittled by Hagrid.
7. Harry sees only his mother and father in the Mirror of Erised.

Answer: False

Harry does see his mother and father, but he also sees many other family members as well. This is one of the differences between the book and the movie.
8. When asked what he saw when he looked into the mirror, Dumbledore said that he saw himself holding a pair of thick, woollen socks.

Answer: True

Dumbledore explained that you could never have enough socks, but Harry did wonder if he'd been completely honest with his answer.
9. After months of searching, where did they finally find the name of Nicolas Flamel?

Answer: On the back of a 'Famous Wizard' card from a chocolate frog packet.

Nicolas Flamel's name was written on the back of Professor Dumbledore's 'Famous Wizard' card. Harry realized this when comforting Neville after he'd had his legs locked together by Malfoy. This scene is one of the extra scenes shown on the DVD and video release, but was cut from the movie.
10. Who was really trying to steal the stone?

Answer: Quirrell

Quirrell's timid act was just that, an act. He carried what was left of Voldemort around in his turban and was trying to get the stone to help Voldemort regain his body.
11. Where was Ron when Harry and Hermione took Hagrid's dragon to the tallest tower in the castle so that Charlie Weasley's friends could transport it to Romania?

Answer: In hospital, recovering from a dragon bite.

This is another part of the book that was changed for the movie. In the book they manage to get the dragon off safely before they're caught wandering the grounds. Things are simplified in the movie where Hagrid is caught with the dragon the same night it hatches and it is sent off for him. In both cases they're given a detention in the Dark Forest.
12. When Voldemort, feeling stronger from drinking unicorn blood, tried to attack Harry in the Dark Forest, who saved him?

Answer: Firenze - a centaur.

Firenze charged at Voldemort, scaring him away and then carried Harry to safety on his back. This earned him the anger of the other centaurs who felt that they shouldn't get involved, and that Firenze was shaming himself by carrying a human.
13. What convinced the friends that Snape (or so they believed) was going to try and get the stone that very night?

Answer: Professor Dumbledore had been summoned away from Hogwarts.

Although all of these points were important in convincing the friends that Snape was going after the stone, it was Dumbledore's removal from the castle that convinced them of the timing, because Dumbledore was the only wizard that Voldemort had ever been afraid of.
14. Of the many things guarding the stone, what was the only one that Quirrell/Voldemort could not figure out or overcome?

Answer: The Mirror of Erised.

Dumbledore had arranged it so that only someone who wanted to find the stone, but not use it, would be able to get it. Fluffy the three headed dog, and the flying keys were the other two things guarding the stone.
15. What present did Hagrid give Harry when he came to visit him in the hospital wing? (This is how it happened in the book, not in the movie.)

Answer: A photo album filled with pictures of his parents.

Harry had never had pictures of his parents because the Dursleys were so cruel. These pictures were extra special because they were 'wizard pictures', and the people in them moved.
