Pa tells Laura they are moving to "Indian country". Pa believed there were to many people moving into the "Big Woods", and he did not want to live where the the land was becoming settled and the wild animals were becoming afraid.

Answer: They had to cross the Mississippi River before the ice broke

When the Ingalls decide to move, Pa told them they must move before the ice starts to break on the Mississippi. They drove their wagon across it. He worried the ice could break while they were in the middle of it.

Answer: Missouri River

The Missouri River is a big, yellow, muddy river they crossed on a raft. The Missouri River is very long. It runs east and south and connects with the Mississippi River.
