Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. It's the summer holidays. Peter and Janet are given a tin of chocolate biscuits to share with the Secret Seven, so they call a meeting the next day. Even though she is definitely not welcome, Jack's annoying sister Susie manages to get into the meeting AGAIN! How does she get in this time?

Answer: She disguises herself as Jack

When everyone has arrived at the meeting, Scamper starts growling at Jack! The children wonder why and suggest he take off his hat as he has forgotten to do so. He is a bit reluctant, so George whips it off and they get a shock - it isn't Jack at all, it's Susie! She and her friend Binkie have been to a fancy dress party dressed as 'Jack & Jill' and she has borrowed Jack's clothes.

The children tell her to leave and chase her out of the shed, only to be splashed with a pail of water by Binkie.
2. After eating a lot of chocolate biscuits each, the children try and think of things to do over the summer. Which of these is NOT suggested?

Answer: Find out who stole some priceless diamonds

When the Secret Seven finally meet together (without Susie!) they enjoy the biscuits and try and think of things to do over the summer. Colin jokes that they should find out who tied the headmaster's chair up the flagpole. Then he comes up with a more serious suggestion - his neighbour, General Branksome, has had his war medals stolen and was so upset that Colin saw him crying.

They decide to try and help the General, but think they need another task to be working on. Peter suggests they look out for the gang who have been spoiling birds' nests and stealing the eggs in Bramley Woods.
3. Colin goes to visit his neighbour who has been burgled. How did the burglar get into the house?

Answer: They broke a tiny window and reached inside to unlock the door

Colin is given the job of talking to General Branksome about his stolen medals. The General tells him how upset he is to lose them; he is very proud of fighting in the war and now he has nothing to show for it and just feels like a very old man. Colin promises the General he will find the medals for him.

The housekeeper, Emma, tells Colin that the thief broke in by breaking a very small pane of glass and reaching in to unlock the door. She bets that Colin can't get his own fist through the small gap and says the thief must have had very very small hands.
4. Jack, Barbara and George go to the woods. They meet some other boys who are up to no good. Barbara tells them, "We belong to a club that has been given instructions to stop this sort of thing. Look - we're wearing badges. You clear off at once!" The badges have "S.S." on them for Secret Seven. What do the boys say "S.S." stands for?

Answer: Silly Snoopers

Jack, George and Barbara go to the woods to investigate the birds' nests. They see three boys climbing trees and talking about stealing the eggs. They tell the boys to get lost. Barbara feels so sad when one of the boys throws a blackbird egg at Jack that she tells them they are under orders to protect the birds.

The boys just laugh at their badges and say the "S.S." stands for 'Silly Snoopers'. The boys get into a fight with George and Jack. Barbara runs to find help.
5. A man called Tom Smith comes to help George and Jack when they are attacked by the boys in the woods. Tom seems friendly at first, and the children tell him about the Secret Seven's two plans for the summer. Tom tells them he has some information that could help them. Why do the children NOT want Tom's help?

Answer: Tom is only interested in getting the £500 reward money

Barbara finds Tom Smith resting under a nearby tree. He comes and chases the boys away and then stays to have lunch with the children, who tell him all about the Secret Seven and their plan to find the General's medals. Tom seems VERY interested in the General's medals and the prize money on offer.

The children plan to give the money back to the General if they find the medals, because he is a poor old man, but Tom Smith wants the money for himself. He tells them he saw a man climb a tree and put something into a hole, and it looked like it could have been a box of medals. Tom says his own hands were too big to reach into the hole.

He won't tell the children which tree it was, so they tell him they will find the medals without his help.
6. The children think Tom Smith is a bad man. They all go to the woods at night with Scamper and hide in the trees and bushes. Which of these people do they NOT see in the woods?

Answer: General Branksome

The Secret Seven decide to go to the woods at night and watch out for the thief that Tom Smith told them about. While hiding in the woods, they see Tom Smith, who also hides and waits. Another man called Wily comes along with his Alsatian dog, Nabber.

The two men both stole the medals but Wily does not want to share them with Tom. Wily has small hands and knows Tom can't get the medals from the small hole. Tom and Wily have a fight.
7. When Scamper gets over-excited, he barks loudly and the children are discovered! They end up trapped in the woods for the night while the criminals escape. But help is at hand! Who rescues the Secret Seven from the woods?

Answer: Susie and Binkie

When the children are discovered, Tom Smith makes Pam reach into the tree to get the medals for him. Pam pretends to be so scared that she needs Peter to stand with her. She easily gets the medals from the tree and passes them to Peter but pretends she is still looking. Peter takes the medals from the box and gives the empty box back to Pam to give to the men.

They take it and leave, but set Nabber the Alsatian on guard for the rest of the night. After a long time, they hear a bicycle bell ringing. Susie and Binkie have come to find out where they are! The children send Susie and Binkie to get the police.
8. How many dogs are present in the final scene in the woods?

Answer: four

There are four dogs: our friendly old spaniel Scamper, the thief's aAlsatian guard dog Nabber, and two police Alsatian dogs named Sasha and Vanya. When Susie raises the alarm, the police arrive in a van; as soon as they hear Nabber barking loudly, they release their own two Alsatians into the woods to deal with Nabber. None of the dogs are hurt, but Nabber is safely caught and the children can escape.
9. The Secret Seven tell the police the whole story. The criminals are arrested but the police can't find the stolen goods. The children have kept them hidden away. Why did they do this?

Answer: They want Colin to give them back to their rightful owner

The children are on their way home in the police car when they see the two robbers coming out of a nearby pub in a hurry - they have realised the box is empty. The police catch them and put them in the van with the dogs. The next day the police visit the children and say they have not found the stolen medals yet.

They wonder what has happened to them. Peter has kept the medals to give to Colin. Colin promised the General to find his medals, so Colin should be the one to return them to him.
10. Who gets the £500 reward money in the end?

Answer: Nobody gets it

Colin returns the General's medals; the General is so grateful that he offers Colin the reward money. The children have already decided they do not want it, and Colin refuses. The General wants to show his gratitude. Emma the housekeeper suggests he give them all medals of their own "For Bravery".

The General attends a very special Secret Seven meeting to give ten medals - one for each of the Secret Seven, one for Scamper, and one each for Susie and Binkie who have been allowed to attend - just this once!
