Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Violet has two friends (Marnie and Terry). Will calls them "The Munchkins" and "Tweedledum and Tweedledee".

Answer: True

The only thing Violet, Marnie and Terry had in common were their size. "Marnie was plump, with fluffy fair hair and very pink cheeks. Terry was tiny, the smallest girl in the whole school, with a brown pageboy bob." Violet thinks she looks about eight, and they both acted eight.
2. Miss Lang gave Violet "The Violet Fairy Book", for her birthday. What age was she?

Answer: 10

Miss Lang was her next door neighbour, who had a stroke, and died. Violet didn't like her much - she scared her, and always ran away when she heard the 'tap, tap tap' of her black stick. Nobody lives in her house, which gives Will a great idea for a Blind Man's Buff game...
3. Why did Violet try so hard analysing Mercutio's "Queen Mab" speech?

Answer: Because it was about fairies

Violet did love Shakespeare, but she loved fairies even more. She made loads of fairies and hung them from the ceiling, and even made one for Jasmine, the new girl who becomes her very best friend.
4. Who is Violet's hero?

Answer: Casper Dream

Casper Dream's first book was "The Smoky Fairy", and he then drew a lot of flower fairy books. He had written to Violet, but when she tried to write again, it came back "not known at this address". When Violet tried to find him at his past home, she actually met him - a large man called Colin Dunwell.
5. What are Jasmine's parent's names?

Answer: Jonathan Day and Miranda Cape

Jasmine says that "Miranda was in "Eastenders" ages ago, and Jonathan's been several different telly cops in his time, and a few criminals too. They're basically stage actors." Violet and Jasmine actually sit in a box, and see Jonathan perform. Violet's mum is very impressed.
6. What does Violet NOT mention when describing Jasmine's room?

Answer: A music box

Violet says that she didn't have her own television or computer, she didn't have an elaborate music player, just a little CD radio. She thinks Jasmine's room is so beautiful though, because it looks so different. She has glass perfume bottles, snow globes, Russian dolls and neroli candles.
7. Violet and Will are both adopted.

Answer: False

Only Will is adopted. Violet finds out that they adopted Will because their own baby, William, died when he was a baby. She finds this out when Will dares her to spend ten whole minutes in the loft, where they should never go - for this reason.
8. Why did Violet run away?

Answer: She caught Will and Jasmine kissing

She tore the Jasmine Fairy off Jasmine, and threw her at a corner. She clawed down all her fairies, then ran away, caught a train, and found Paradise Street (this was Casper Dream's previous address.)
9. Violet finds a terrible secret. What colour eyes does the first baby Will have?

Answer: Blue

Violet finds a baby book of photographs, but the wrong date is written. She flicks to the last page, where there is a small, slightly out of focus snapshot of Mum in a hospital ward, clutching the baby is if she could never let him go. There is another date at the bottom - a death date. Mum and Dad had tried to replace him with Will.
10. What did Will do for Violet at the end of the book?

Answer: Stitched her fairies back together

Will slipped a piece of paper underneath Violet's door "Look out of your window in ten minutes. Will." Will went out into the garden and hung the fairies by threads, on the old apple tree. At first Violet thinks they are fruit, but then realises.
"I heard a clock chime far away. It was striking midnight. I looked out into the night and made my wish". You never know what Violet wished for, but you can guess many things.
