During the first chapter, which retells the hours directly after Lily and James Potter's deaths, Professors Dumbledore and McGonagall are waiting for Hagrid to deliver baby Harry Potter. McGonagall questions whether Hagrid is the right person to be trusted with this important task, and Dumbledore replies with this sentence.
