Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who narrated the first section of the book?

Answer: Mother

The reader got to see inside Mother's mind for the first time in the series. Like Billy, she had been alone for hundreds of years. She was shocked to discover that she was, in fact, so lonely. Mother felt a very special connection to Billy. The computer ended her chapter by thinking "He is here and I am no longer alone."
2. Which was not a name of a Blue Meanie?

Answer: One Blessed River

There was a chapter in the story in which the Blue Meanies gathered and discussed their situation. All names were mentioned except "One Blessed River." They wondered if the humans were enemies or possible allies. They observed the humans helping the deceased Four Sacred Streams destroy the dangerous node thirty-one.

They also witnessed the Remnants accidentally defacing their blessed monument.
3. Which node did the Blue Meanies desperately need to destroy?

Answer: Node thirty-one

This node was Boschs' "Last Judgment." It was filled with unending, terrifying demons that were filled with bloodlust. Four Sacred Streams, with the help of Jobs and the others, ultimately destroyed the node. The Blue Meanies agreed that Mother was weak and needed repairs, which the Meanies agreed they must do as soon as possible.
4. Who secretly understood the Blue Meanie's language?

Answer: Noyze

Noyze was born with only twenty percent of her hearing capacity intact. She learned sign language and lip-reading to help her communicate. She and Dr. Cohen were taken from the Mayflower by the Blue Meanies. By watching the Blue Meanies, Noyze picked up their own particular sign language that they used by waving their tentacles around.

She kept this information to herself. The Meanies were so sure of their complex dialect that Twelve Hallowed Stones, a Meanie, thought their language was something "No human... would ever be able to master."
5. Where was the Blue Meanie army based?

Answer: Washington Warriors Stadium

The Washington Warriors Stadium was where a battle took place between Yago and the Blue Meanies. The Warriors were formerly the Redskins before 2011. 2Face was the one to recognize the area. The Remnants hid in the home team's locker room while the battle took place.

In the locker room, Yago was killed by a Blue Meanie's mini-missile. But Mother, who demanded he fulfill his duty, kept him alive.
6. Why was Yago so claustrophobic?

Answer: Because of an incident in his youth

When Yago was young, he fell into a hole in his backyard. It was raining, dark out, and he couldn't grip the sides of the hole to lift himself up. Too panicked to scream, he was forced to lie in the hole until someone found him the next morning. Mother used this fear to control Yago, but she didn't give it to him.

Whenever he choose something she did not approve of, she placed him in a familiar trapped-in setting, where Yago couldn't breathe because of his fear.
7. What was Yago's secret desire?

Answer: To be a model

When Yago struck a deal with Mother to destroy the Blue Meanies, Mother allowed him to live out particular fantasies. Yago saw pictures lining the wall of his own personal White House and was embarrassed that Mother knew he wanted to be a model. It was no secret that Yago wanted power so he could rule over everybody.
8. Who did Mother enlist to do her will?

Answer: Yago

Yago was the only one willing to accept this duty. It had been offered to any Remnant willing to destroy all of the Blue Meanies for Mother. As soon as he said "Yes," Mother gave him his own house and an old-fashioned army in order to go to war. The Blue Meanies wished to repair Mother, who had previously thrown them out of her ship.

The banished aliens wanted to change her back to when she called them her Children and allowed them on board.
9. Who rescued Yago from Mother's clutches while he suffered in the interactive chair?

Answer: Kubrick

Mo'Steel attempted to save the screaming Yago but was dealt a large amount of pain, which caused him to lose consciousness. Only Kubrick, with his inability to feel pain, was able top pull Yago away from the chair. The others smelled his flesh cooking as he performed the task. Kubrick lifted his charred hands and stared at them, but recovered.
10. Who was accused of being a Shipwright?

Answer: The baby

The Remnants watched as the baby hovered around a deceased Blue Meanie. The baby grew, its skin turned reddish, and its head turned pointy. It had the classic look of a Shipwright, a being that created Mother. In the end of the book, the baby offered to take the Remnants to the bridge of the ship.
