Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who started the small fight at the beginning of the book?

Answer: Anamull

In the beginning, there were only eleven remaining Remnants (Yago and Tate were on Mother), two Riders, and four Blue Meanies. There was a small fight, causing two Blue Meanie deaths. Noyze reopened her leg wound and Roger Dodger received a horrid hit to his head. Yago, of course, was on the ship during all of the fighting.
2. Who tried to steal Billy's water?

Answer: Anamull

The Remnants were left on Earth with a very limited amount of food and water. Anamull mocked everybody before drinking his own entire water supply. He made his way over to Billy, who was in a coma-like stance, just like in the earlier books. Mo'Steel tried to wrestle the water away.

When Anamull drank the water, some of it spilled over his face and the rest of it fell to the ashy ground.
3. Why couldn't Violet bring herself to speak to Jobs?

Answer: She didn't feel worthy of his friendship anymore

Jobs regretted the way their relationship had deteriorated. Violet realized he had not been changed by any kind of mutation. Ever since she had revealed the worms inside of her, she felt withdrawn from the others, who had not changed, including Olga, Mo'Steel, Noyze, and Jobs.
4. Why didn't Violet ask D-Caf to go away when he was bugging her?

Answer: She felt responsible for him

The same went for Roger Dodger and 2Face. All of them, including Violet, had the worm mutation inside of them. At will, they could begin the process of drawing them outside and reviving people who had died, to a certain extent. She considered herself responsible for all of them- she even thought of them as family.

They needed someone to show them what they had become. Since she was the one to change them, Violet felt accountable.
5. Billy slipped into a kind of unconsciousness but sat up to speak. Why was it so hard for the others to understand what he said?

Answer: He spoke too fast

It was the opposite problem from before, when everyone woke up from the Mayflower. Back then, Billy spoke much too slowly for the Remnants, and they moved too fast for him. After being with the supercomputer Mother, Billy spoke in a high-pitched voice that was too fast for anyone to understand.
6. Jobs wanted to just give up hope and accept his death. What made him stop these thoughts?

Answer: Edward

Jobs felt responsible for his little brother. Edward, being only six years old, didn't deserve to have to just give up and die. Edward stayed strong by embracing his mutation and calling himself by a superhero name- The Chameleon. Because their parents died on the flight on the Mayflower, they only had each other. So Jobs pulled himself together for him.
7. Which Remnant had Attention Deficit Disorder?

Answer: Anamull

Even though Yago's nickname for D-Caf was "twitch," he never mentioned he had the disorder. Yago didn't either. Mo'Steel was always moving about and never could stay still, but he never mentioned it either. Anamull revealed he had Attention Deficit Disorder. Back on Earth, before the Rock, adults told him his affliction and made him take his pills to control it. Because such a medicine no longer existed, Anamull had been acting even more out of control than usual.
8. Anamull built himself a fire. How much p-money did he use as kindling?

Answer: Seventy dollars

The futuristic term was p-money, and Anamull had seventy dollars left from his wallet. He had three tens and two twenties. He had tried to use some bamboo he had found, as well as the fabric from his shirt. With the papery money he was finally able to start the fire.
9. Jobs "dreamt" he saw San Francisco completely intact. What did Mo'Steel see?

Answer: His grandmother baking bread

At first Mo'Steel could smell the bread being made, along with the Latin jazz his grandma loved. Jobs knew what he saw couldn't be real because he saw San Francisco blown apart by a piece of the Rock. Mo also heard the bread dough being kneaded and his grandma humming.
10. In the dream storm Edward saw his neighborhood bully. What was his name?

Answer: Jackson Cooder

Edward saw Billy's face change into Jackson's. He remembered the older boy taunting him at recess and P.E. When he found Jobs, he hid behind him and peeked out, terrified. Everyone hallucinated during the dream storm; Mo'Steel saw a stern nun from his childhood; Billy saw himself in his cradle, begging for attention; Noyze saw her father left alone in his berth in the Mayflower. D-Cad even saw the Pittsburgh Steelers.
