"Mary Had a Little Lamb" was a poem before it was a song. It was written by a woman named Sarah Hale in 1830, and some of the words are about things that actually happened. For example, the lamb's owner was a girl called Mary, and she did take the lamb to school one day after her brother convinced her it was a good idea.
