Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Everyone who has read "The 39 Clues" series know about the Cahills. Which of these best describes who the Cahills are?

Answer: They are a family.

The Cahills are a family that have been separated by a misunderstanding that occurred in the 16th century.
2. As we know from the book "Vespers Rising", five siblings made five branches. Can you name the branches that were formed by them, in order, by the age of each sibling from oldest to youngest?

Answer: Lucian, Ekaterina, Tomas, Janus and Madrigal

The five branches were started from the five siblings. The oldest brother Luke formed Lucian, sister Katherine formed Ekaterina, brother Thomas formed Tomas, sister Jane formed Janus and sister Madeline formed Madrigal.
3. In the book "Vespers Rising", the four oldest children of Gideon and Olivia got to taste the serum Gideon made. Due to the serum they each developed a personality. What personality did Jane develop?

Answer: devotion to every kind of art

The serum of Gideon made Luke cunning, with a passion for poison and stealthiness. Katherine got supreme knowledge. Thomas got amazing physical strength. Jane was devoted to every kind of art. Because Madeline was not actually born at the time the serum got created, she never got a portion and was therefore normal.
4. A fire started that killed Gideon. The fire started a fight between siblings and they parted. Madeline was born and Olivia died. Madeline now made a goal which proved very hard to accomplish. What was that goal, as described in the book "Vespers Rising"?

Answer: reunite the Cahill family

This goal of Madeline proved extremely hard to achieve. The battle between branches lasted for 500 years. As Madeline and her descendants wanted all the branches to be equal and not fight, she had to destroy clues the branches gathered. For this deed, the Madrigals (Madeline's descendants) were considered evil.
5. Years later, Daniel and Amelia Cahill were born as the grandchildren of Grace Cahill and the children of Hope Cahill and Arthur Trent. What tragedy befell them, as shown in book one, "The Maze of Bones"?

Answer: Their parents died when they were young.

All the leaders of the branches gathered in Amy and Dan's house and set it on fire. Hope Cahill escaped with the children, but, when she went back to save her husband, both of them died. The fire was lit by Isabel Kabra.
6. 16 out of 40 Cahills accepted the challenge to look for 39 clues rather than take the million dollars. Who took the million dollars, as said in book one, "The Maze of Bones"?

Answer: Aunt Beatrice, Cousin Ingrid and Uncle Jose

Aunt Beatrice, Cousin Ingrid and Uncle Jose all took the million dollars saying that this hunt was rubbish, and they were Cahills not adventurers. The sixteen people who accepted the hunt were:

Team 1- Irina Spasky
Team 2- Alistair Oh
Team 3- Amy and Dan Cahill
Team 4- Ian and Natalie Kabra
Team 5- Sinead, Ned and Ted Starling
Team 6- Jonah and Broderick Wizard
Team 7- Eisenhower, Mary-Todd, Hamilton, Reagan and Madison Holt.
7. As mentioned in book one, "The Maze of Bones", which team was eliminated in the second day of the race because of the bomb blast at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia?

Answer: The Starlings

Hamilton Holt came up with the idea of setting the bomb in the Franklin Institute to eliminate Amy and Dan from the race. Unfortunately, the Starlings get injured instead of the Cahills.
8. In book three, "The Sword Thief", something out of the ordinary happens to the Cahills and Kabras while they are in Korea. First the Kabras save the Cahills, then they form an alliance. What is the extraordinary thing that happens after the adventure in Korea?

Answer: Ian Kabra falls in love with Amy Cahill

In Korea, during the alliance with the Cahills, Ian Kabra is instructed by his mother to make Amy Cahill fall in love with him, making her reveal her clues to him and finally betray her. Ian does betray her but then realizes that instead of Amy being in love with him, he is in fact in love with her. Amy already had a crush on Ian before the race and, because Ian has betrayed her, she no longer loves him.
9. Why does Ian Kabra think he is going soft in book three, "The Sword Thief"?

Answer: He gets bitten by Alistair Oh's dog Buffy.

When Alistair goes to sleep after giving everyone a warning not to wander around, Ian asks Amy if she wants to go see the hedge maze with him. Amy refuses and he goes alone. After a few minutes everyone is woken by a huge shout, and they soon find out that Ian was bitten on his bottom by Alistair's dog Buffy.

This reveals his boxers with a pink dollar sign on a white background. Ian believes that humiliation softens the soul.
10. In the last book, "Into the Gauntlet", we find out a big secret about Jonah Wizard aka 'Da Wiz'. What is his secret?

Answer: He loves Shakespeare's poems.

During the fight between the Cahills at the Global Theater, Jonah gets recognized because of his famous and insured face. An old lady who refuses to take ransom and declare she hasn't seen Jonah calls him to her room and asks him questions. We are then told that Jonah is a great fan of William Shakespeare's poetry, but is keeping this a secret just for the sake of his reputation.
