Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the "important date" in the Hotel?

Answer: Thursday

Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire had to work as concierges at the Hotel Denouement. They observed everyone to try to see if they were Volunteers or Villains.
2. Which manager did Violet meet as she continued her duties as a concierge?

Answer: Frank

Frank tried to stop her giving the harpoon gun to Carmelita, but was unfathomable. Actually, if Violet HADN'T given the gun to the "young girl on the roof", one of the managers wouldn't have died.
3. Who is the real J.S?

Answer: They all are

They all have the initials J.S, so they are all the real J.S. When a message was sent to J.S, Jerome and Justice Strauss both thought that it was for them. Jerome said that sometimes he felt like an impostor.
4. Who did the Baudelaires NOT recognise in the Hotel?

Answer: They recognised them all

They also saw Mr Remora, Mrs Bass and Vice Principal Nero. The Baudelaires had to work as concierges at the Hotel, and to observe everyone as a Flaneur.
5. Frank, Ernest and Joey are triplets.

Answer: False

Frank, Ernest and Dewey are the Denouement triplets. It is confusing in the book, because there is no way of telling them apart. Lemony Snicket often ends sentences with "said Frank probably, unless it was Ernest" or "said Ernest or Frank".
6. What was the weapon that made Count Olaf an orphan?

Answer: Poison darts

Earlier in the book, Count Olaf says to the children "I guess the sub-sub-librarian hasn't told you the story about your parents, and a box of poison darts"...
7. This was the last book Esme and Carmelita appeared in.

Answer: True

Esme and Count Olaf broke up, and Carmelita decided she didn't like them anymore. Now, Count Olaf has lost all his associates - but now he wants Violet, Klaus and Sunny to be his "henchmen".
8. Which manager died?

Answer: Dewey

Poor Dewey! He got hit by the harpoon gun... and the Baudelaires were blamed yet again!
9. When the trial started, what was the disadvantage of the audience?

Answer: They were blindfolded

Everyone had blindfolds on except the judges: Justice Strauss and her other judges. However, the two judges were "the man with a beard but no hair" and "the woman with hair but no beard". They put tape on Justice Strauss's mouth to make sure she didn't help the Baudelaires out.
10. How did the Baudelaires exit the hotel?

Answer: On a boat with Count Olaf

They were on the roof of the burning hotel with Count Olaf and Justice Strauss. The Baudelaires formed a plan to get off the building in the boat: Violet made a drag chute and Klaus made the sail the correct angle for them to land safely. They did, but they were in the boat with Count Olaf...
