Question 1 of 10
1. At the end of Book 2, "The Arctic Incident", young Artemis had rescued his father from the Russian mafiya (with the help of some friends in low places). After being mistreated, Artemis Sr is now recuperating in a hospital. At the start of Book 3 Artemis Sr is now awake, coherent and a completely changed man, both in mind and spirit. The family motto no longer holds Artemis Sr's interest. What does the family motto of "Aurum Est Potestas" mean? Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. With his mother and father incredibly happy to be alive and together, and Artemis himself off to boarding school shortly, he realizes that the opportunity for the nefarious capers he had previously been able to pull off may now be at an end. But there is one last business deal to conduct. Artemis, with the help of Butler, has pilfered some fairy technology that he has used to construct the ultimate in computer hardware/technology. He has dubbed it what? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. Artemis' meeting with Jon Spiro did not go according to plan. Spiro wanted the cube, with or without Artemis' permission. Fortunately for young Fowl, his bodyguard and friend Butler was prepared for the worst. He had planted a sonic grenade under the table. It only required the final word to be uttered to detonate. What was that final word? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. Arno Blunt, one of Spiro's evil henchman, had managed to suprise Artemis and Butler this round. He had inserted earplugs that prevented the sonic explosion from affecting him. Unfortunately for Butler he had left Artemis alone, something his bodyguard training had warned him never ever to do. Before Arno could shoot Artemis, Butler emerged directly into the path of the bullet. Butler was able to shoot at Arno six times before he collapsed to the ground. Artemis reached Butler's side only to hear him proclaim "Call me _______". What is Butler's first name? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. Artemis would not give up on Butler. The idea sparked in Artemis' head. If he couldn't stop time, he would halt Butler's passage through it by having him cryogenically frozen until he could be healed or revived. The only person/s who could heal Butler would be fairy folk. Artemis then called into the London Times Crossword puzzle line and muttered "LEP..B'wa Kell..Atlantis"..enough code words that it triggered the fairy folks Sentinel device to alert Foaly. He in turn contacted Holly to investigate this. Just what Artemis wanted. Holly managed to heal Butler, but there were some slight problems. First, some Kevlar from the bulletproof vest had entered his body. Second, Butler had physically aged. He now appeared to be over 50. And finally, there was now a letter tattooed across his chest. His bulletproof vest had the initials F.B.I on it. Which of those 3 letters was now tattooed on his chest?

Answer: (One letter)
Question 6 of 10
6. When Artemis had shown Spiro the "C Cube", he tested it, which inadvertently 'pinged' the lower elements. This alerted Foaly that someone somewhere knew about the lower elements. It was Holly's job to find out. After she had completed the healing of Butler, Artemis took it upon himself to let her know just who had pinged her. Artemis advised that Spiro had stolen the technology, but once he became aware that Artemis was still alive would come after him since he was the only person who knew how to work around the eternity code he had installed. Too bad Butler was out for the count. But as Artemis pointed out, "there is more than one Butler in the family." Butler has a younger sister named Juliet. Juliet followed in her brother's footsteps and entered into Madame Ko's academy. She was the first Butler female to enter into the academy, and the fifth to pass the physical exam. Juliet has also one slight addiction. What is she addicted to? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. What U.S. city does Jon Spiro live in? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. Spiro decided that in order to obtain Artemis and have him brought to Chicago he would use his dealings with the Chicago mob, specifically with Carla Frazetti. She had two persons in mind who could pass in Ireland and retrieve Artemis. One is a character you might be familiar with, having read the prior Artemis Fowl books. That character is Mulch Diggums. The second member of the team is Aloysius McGuire. He is better known by what nickname? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. Mulch Diggums is now known as Mo Digence. Mo works on commission for the Chicago Mob and has just been offered the job of kidnapping Artemis Fowl. Good thing for Artemis that Mulch was chosen, as he is able to sneak in and alert everyone to the plan. Unfortunately, everyone includes his cohort Loafers, who has been listening in on the whole conversation since Mulch inadvertently turned on his microphone. Enter a fairy mindwipe. A mindwipe is exactly what it sounds like. You can wipe the mind free of all memories or select memories. Loafers is completely mindwiped and placed in what place? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. Poor Arno Blunt. The hired thug for Jon Spiro has had to return to his boss very sheepishly. The original swipe of the C Cube in the restaurant didn't go entirely as planned. When the sonic grenade went off, Arno lost something. What was that? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts

Answer: gold is power

Up until Artemis Sr's return from capitivity, that motto held true.

Answer: C Cube

According to the book, the "C Cube" is described as a "micro TV, a verbally controlled computer, a mobile phone, a diagnostic aid. This little box can read any information on absolutely any platform, electronic or organic. It can play videos, laser disks, DVDs, go online, retrieve e-mail, hack any computer.

It can even scan your chest to see how fast you heart's beating. Its battery is good for two years, and of course it's completely wireless". Sign me up for one!

Answer: Rainbow

Butler began speaking "Richard of York gave battle in vain". Another person, a not-so-innocent bystander, remembered that this was a pneumonic device she had learned in school to help remember the colors of the rainbow. As soon as she uttered that word the device went off.

Answer: Domovoi

When Butler revealed his name, the book states "The name told Artemis two things. First, his lifelong ally had been named for a Slavic guardian spirit. Second, graduates...were instructed never to reveal their first names to their Principals (persons they are guarding).

It helped to keep things clinical. Butler would never have broken this rule...unless it no longer mattered." Not Butler!

Answer: i

According to Foaly, the techy centaur, Holly's magic wasn't enough. The healing also needed some of Butler's own life force to work. Unfortunately, it was about 15 years' worth. The healing can't be undone, nor can he regain his youth.

Answer: Wrestling

Juliet is completely addicted to wrestling. For her 18th birthday she asked for and received a "World Wrestling Grudge Match" video. She incorporates many wrestling moves into her fighting routine.
7. What U.S. city does Jon Spiro live in?

Answer: Chicago

Chicago is the home of the Spiro Needle, an 86-story building. Jon Spiro himself lives on the entire 86th floor. Spiro is a shrewd but illegal business person. He has dealings with the Chicago mob boss, believing that businesses who have dealings with the Mob tend to flourish.

Answer: Loafers

Aloysius is better known as Loafers McGuire. Loafers had always wanted to be a mobster just like in the movies. He had attempted to form a 'Celtic Mafia'. When that didn't pan out he moved to Chicago. He felt the name 'Loafers' had more of a mobster ring to it.

Answer: Kenya

Loafers wakes up only to find himself wearing sandals in the middle of Kenya. He can speak perfect Swahili and just wants to join the tribe of people who found him and lead a productive life. Who knew? :)
10. Poor Arno Blunt. The hired thug for Jon Spiro has had to return to his boss very sheepishly. The original swipe of the C Cube in the restaurant didn't go entirely as planned. When the sonic grenade went off, Arno lost something. What was that?

Answer: his teeth

Arno lost all of his teeth. The scene in the book in which Arno attempts to talk is best described as "cartoonish". I think Jon Spiro would agree as he himself uttered it.
This quiz only covers a small portion of the book. The remainder was so much fun to read that I didn't want to spoil it for anyone else. If you get a chance to read the book drop me a line and tell me what you think.
