Answer: Solomon

The Old Testament book of I Kings tells the story of how Solomon followed in his father's footsteps and became king. When God came to him during a dream and asked him what he wanted, Solomon chose wisdom and good judgement instead of wealth or power. As a reward for his unselfish choice, God also gave him riches and honor. Solomon built the first temple and is credited with writing the books of Ecclesiastes, Proverbs, and Song of Songs, which is also called Song of Solomon.

Answer: Ruth

A famine in Israel forced Naomi, her husband, and their two sons to move to a country called Moab. Both sons married but after all three men died, Naomi decided to return home. Even though she told her daughters-in-law to stay with their families, Ruth loved Naomi and refused to leave her.

When they got back to Bethlehem, a relative of Naomi's husband heard about Ruth's loyalty and kindness, and even though she was a foreigner, he gave her a job and was kind to her. The man's name was Boaz, and he and Ruth married and had a son named Obed, who was grandfather to King David.

Answer: Peter

In Matthew 16:18, Jesus said "And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it." (NIV)

Peter was a fisherman who left his job to follow Jesus. Even though he made mistakes, Jesus never left him - just as God stays with us and helps us overcome our own sins if we keep our hearts open to Him.

Answer: Delilah

During a time when the Philistines were ruling over the Israelites, a boy named Samson was born. Samson had the amazing gift of super human strength, and when he got older he used that strength to overpower some of the Philistines, making their leaders very angry. They went to see Delilah, a beautiful and cunning woman that Samson loved, and offered her money to learn Samson's secret. When she finally tricked him into admitting that his strength was in his hair, she told the Philistines. They cut his hair while he slept and made a slave out of him after he became weak. Samson died, but not before he regained some of his strength and pulled the temple down, crushing a large number of the Philistines.

Answer: Lydia

Paul, Timothy, and Silas were traveling in Philippi when they met Lydia. After she and those in her household were baptized, she opened her home to the missionaries and became an important part of the early Church.

In Biblical times, the color purple was reserved for royalty and those who made and sold it were well respected in the community. Lydia's success in business allowed her to own a comfortable home, and it was there that early Christians in Philippi met to encourage and support one another, just as we do in church today.

Answer: Jonah

God told Jonah to go to the city of Nineveh and talk to the people because they had turned away from Him. Instead, Jonah tried to hide from God by running away. When a terrible storm put the ship and its sailors in danger, the men on board tossed Jonah overboard and he was swallowed by a whale. After he prayed and promised to do the right thing, the whale left him on the beach and he promptly left to do as he was told.

The book of Jonah also tells the story of God's love and compassion for His people, because He forgave the citizens of Nineveh and spared the city after they repented.

Answer: Nicodemus

As a member of the Sanhedrin and a Pharisee, Nicodemus was forced to meet with Jesus in secret. During this meeting, Jesus explained the meaning of being born again. The story of their conversation includes one of the world's best known and most loved verses: John 3:16. Nicodemus also defended Jesus to his colleagues prior to His arrest and brought spices when Joseph of Arimathea claimed Jesus' body for burial.

Answer: Martha

The Gospel of Luke tells the story of Jesus's visit to Martha's home. While she was preparing dinner, Mary chose to sit with the disciples and listen to His teaching. Eventually, Martha became aggravated with Mary for not helping. Jesus reminded Martha that some things may seem important at the time, but nothing is as important as everlasting life with God.

Another story about Martha appears in John, when her brother Lazarus died and was brought back to life by Jesus.

Answer: Cain

Cain and Abel were the two older sons of Adam and Eve. When the brothers brought offerings to God, He was pleased with Abel's sacrifice of a sheep, but not with the fruit that Cain brought. Cain became very angry and led Abel into a field, where he murdered him. After he lied to God about his actions, he was sent away from home and was forced to live out his days away from his family.

Answer: Elisabeth

Both Elisabeth and Zacharias were good people who followed God, and they were chosen to be the parents of a man who would become a very important prophet. That man's name was John the Baptist. Elisabeth's cousin Mary was the mother of Jesus.
