Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the family business?

Answer: a sub station

The Waverly Sub Station is connected to the Russo family home, and it is owned by the parents, Theresa and Jerry Russo. All three of the Russo children work there, and the sub station is a hangout for a lot of people from their school.
2. In "Potion Commotion", Alex has a crush on the boy Justin is competing against to go to the World School Summit. His first name is Brad, but what is his LAST name?

Answer: Sherwood

In this episode, Justin is competing to represent their school at the World School Summit against a popular guy from their school named Brad, who seems to be a big kiss-up. Alex, however, has a huge crush on Brad. Their teacher, Mr. Laritate, comes to the Russo household to interview Justin, and Brad shows up with a box of chocolates, making Alex think he likes her.

But it turns out he came to try to sabotage Justin's interview. She tried to use a love potion to make him fall for her, but she accidentally drank both halves, and fell in love with herself.

At the end of the episode, Alex loses interest in Brad and discovers what a real kiss-up he is. Thanks to some awry magic from Max's training hat not being on his head, Justin also wins the World Summit.

At a few points during the episode, it is mentioned that Brad's last name is Sherwood.
3. In "The Supernatural", why did Max get banned from the ballpark they previously attended?

Answer: He was trash talking

In this episode, Justin uses magic to make the school's baseball team to impress a girl from their school, Kari Langsdorf, who only dates baseball players (not even very involved students if they don't play baseball). Alex also tries to become the good-luck charm for Riley, the team's catcher, who she has a crush on, and had a date with in "I Almost Drowned in a Chocolate Fountain". Max says he will keep his trash-talking to a minimum, but it gets out of hand at the end when he paints his face red and makes fun of players on the other team.

Some cops appear to escort him out in the end.
4. Which spell allows a wizard to walk up a wall?

Answer: Havity No Gravity

"Havity No Gravity" was first introduced in "Alex's Brother, Maximan" and it allows a wizard, as long as they have two wizards on either side of them, to walk up a wall.
"Edgebonoutoosis" was introduced in the first episode, "Crazy Ten-Minute Sale". It allows the user to duplicate whoever the spell is used on.
"Murieta Animata" was introduced in "Pop Me and We Both Go Down". It allows the user to animate any object.
"Go Through Mo Through" was first introduced in "Art Museum Piece". If used on a wall or other surface, it allows an object or person to pass through the wall.
5. Who ended up being the Deli Robber in "Alex's Brother, Maximan"?

Answer: Jerry Russo

In this episode, Jerry wants to promote cooperation among the three children in their wizard group assignment, which they did poorly on. Therefore, he pretends there is a Deli Robber who has been robbing delis in alphabetical order (he kept moving the newspaper because the story wasn't actually in there). Max disguises himself as "Maximan" to try to stop the Deli Robber.

In the end, Alex misses her first real date with her new boyfriend, Dean Moriarty, to help Justin and Max stop the "Deli Robber", who turns out to be Jerry teaching them a lesson about working together as wizards.
6. What is Dean very interested in?

Answer: Cars

In "Racing", Alex asks Jerry to help him fix up his old car for a race, so she can impress her crush, Dean. In the end, Alex joins him and helps him win the race, and it turns out he actually likes her too.
7. What coming-of-age ceremony does Alex have in one episode?

Answer: Quinceanera

The Quinceanera is the traditional Mexican ceremony where a girl comes of age when she turns fifteen years old. Alex switches bodies to give her mom a Quinceanera she never had, because she doesn't want to wear the customary frilly ball gown.
The Bar/Bat Mitzvah is the coming of age in the Jewish religion, while the Communion and Confirmation are Christian rites of passage. Children's shows generally do not include religious references.
8. Alex is the smart one, while Justin is the troublemaker.

Answer: False

Alex is known for always doing whatever she wants, and getting into trouble. She is also known for having a lackadaisical attitude about school. Justin is thought of as smart and an overachiever, who lives to follow the rules.
9. In "Movies" what is the name of the famous actress/singer/spokesperson (played by Malese Jow of "Unfabulous" fame) who Alex really admires?

Answer: Ruby Donahue

This is the episode where Alex always seems to want to hang around with Justin and his friends from his math class, including Susan and Zack (Zack is actually Zeke, as revealed in a later episode). They don't seem to mind her being around, and Alex gets along great with Susan, but Justin doesn't like it.

When they go into an R-rated movie, and neither Alex nor Justin is allowed in, Alex tries to use a spell to get into the theater with them, but she ends up in the movie itself, literally. It is discovered that the friends actually take notes for Justin on the movie, since he is not old enough to get in, while he stays outside to play video games.

While in the movie, Alex meets Ruby Donahue. Justin later goes into the movie too, and manages to save Alex.
10. Who is the other wizard from their school whom Alex meets in "Disenchanted Evening"?

Answer: T.J. Taylor

In this episode, Alex meets T.J. Taylor, a wizard from their school. His parents allow him to use magic whenever he wants, because he put a charm on them. Then, Alex decides she wants her parents to let her use magic whenever she wants, so she and Justin charm their parents, using a spell in a kugel. Unfortunately, Alex and Justin decide they do want the rules to stay in order. They reverse the spell by giving their parents brownies.
T.J. would appear again in the second season episode "Art Teacher".
