1. World: Business World Marlboro, Chesterfield, Virginia Slims: What is the name of the company responsible for manufacturing these brands?

Answer: Philip Morris USA

The company changed its name to Altria Group in 2003, but still owned 100% of Philip Morris USA at the time. These brands are also made in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, under authority of Philip Morris.
2. Sci/Tech The Aussies call it "carby". What is it?

Answer: Carburetor

Also known as "carb", this is the device that blends air and fuel in car engines. A taxi would be a "cab" or "cabbie".
3. Celebrities She started her career in the 1950s, was a sex symbol in her time, married Roger Vadim, bought a mansion in Saint Tropez (Cote d'Azur, France) and starred in many movies. Who is this iconic actress?

Answer: Brigitte Bardot

Brigitte Bardot also worked as a model. The mansion she bought in 1958 is called La Madrague. She actually withdrew to semi-seclusion there but went back before the cameras after that date.

She starred with Alain Delon, Sean Connery, Jean Marais, Lino Ventura, Annie Girardot and Claudia Cardinale. Among her movies, let's mention the most famous ones: "Et Dieu créa la femme" ("And God Created Woman") in 1956, "Le Mépris" ("Contempt") in 1963 and "Shalako" with Sean Connery in 1968.

Simone Signoret had a career of her own; she was the first French actress to win an Academy Award for her role in "Room at the Top" (1959). Carole Bouquet's career started in 1977; her most memorable role was as a Bond Girl in James Bond "For Your Eyes Only" (1981). Jane Birkin is an English singer who has spent much of her time in France; she has also starred in several movies.
4. History: 21st Century In March 2002 in Afghanistan, the USA and allies launched a large scale operation against the Taliban and Al Qaeda. What was that operation called?

Answer: Operation Anaconda

The operation objective was to prevent the Taliban, who spent the winter in Shahi Kot Valley, from launching an attack in early spring. It led to a large-scale battle against between 500 and 1000 Taliban members, according to estimations. It was deemed very successful with over 500 Taliban killed, and only 23 casualties on the US side.
5. Hobbies: Food & Drink E'ia Ota is a famous dish from what part of the world?

Answer: Tahiti

E'ia Ota is a Tahitian dish, which is very easy to make: raw fish, usually tuna, marinated in coconut milk and lime juice, with cucumber, tomato, green onions and black pepper. You will find many raw fish dishes throughout the world, like cevice in Peru and poke in Hawaii. They all use different ingredients, and all those I have tried have been very refreshing and yummy. Give them a try!
6. Movies "Tora! Tora! Tora!" is a 1970 movie relating the attack of Pearl Harbor by a swarm of Japanese aircraft. What does "tora" mean in this context?

Answer: Lightning attack

In this context, "tora" is an acronym made up of the first two letters of two Japanese words "TOtsugeki RAigeki", which translates as lightning attack. Otherwise, as one word "tora" means "tiger". "To kill" would be "satsu" (also murder or butcher). "To dive" would be "tobikomu", while "to destroy" would be "horobosu". Want to take up Japanese?
7. World: Culture What is a "toorie"?

Answer: A pom-pom in the center of a Scottish headgear named Tam O'Shanter

The Tam O'Shanter is a brimless bonnet cap that appeared in northwestern Europe in the 1600s, and was adopted by the Scots as part of the military uniform of some regiments. It is made of wool and has a pom-pom in the center. It first came in blue, and then in khaki, but now has tartan colors, although some are black. It is also part of the uniform of the Black Watch of Canada.

"Tory" is the name of the political party in question. British tourists don't have an official nickname.
8. Geography The view I have in front of me is simply stunning. A beautiful blue lake surrounded by lush green forests and snow-capped alpine mountains in the background. That scenery is in Araucania. Where on Earth am I?

Answer: Chile

Araucania is a region in South Chile, located in the Andes. The scenery in question is typical of Conguillío National Park in the provinces of Cautín and Malleco. Large parts of Araucania are in pristine condition in spite of the estancias (agricultural estates) that were established there until the mid-20th century to grow wheat.

However, due to mismanagement of crops, the land lost its fertility and returned to a natural state--much to the delight of tourists who can enjoy a wonderful environment.

A large part of this natural wealth has been preserved by the creation of National Parks, one of them being the Conguillio.
9. Religion According to the Bible, what happened to Ahaziah's forty-two brothers?

Answer: They were all killed.

Please refer to 2 Kings 10 and 2 Kings 10:12 to 14 (NKJV). I quote: "First Jehu ordered 'to kill all who remained of the house of Ahab in Jezreel, and all his great men and his close acquaintances and his priests, until he left him none remaining', 70 people in all (2 Kings 10:11).

Then he met Ahaziah's brothers who had come 'to greet the sons of the King and the Queen'. Jehu ordered to have them taken alive, and had them executed 'at the well of Beth Eked, forty-two men; and he left none of them'" (2 Kings 10: 12, 13 and 14). Nice guy!
10. Music The band Dead Can Dance was formed in Melbourne, Australia in 1981. Who was the female lead singer?

Answer: Lisa Gerrard

Lisa has a unique, deep, rich voice that ranges from contralto to mezzo-soprano. Among her best and most notorious songs are: "Sacrifice", "Sanvean", and "Space Weaver", just to name a few.

The other three are also Australian singers, though not at all connected with Dead Can Dance.
