Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the trophy given to the winner of the Minnesota-Michigan football game, a prestigious pacing race for three-year-old horses, and a 1939 recording by Glenn Miller?

Answer: Little Brown Jug

The Old Oaken Bucket, among other things, is the trophy presented to the winner of the Indiana-Purdue football game. The Ryder Cup is the trophy awarded to the biennial winner of the male team professional golf tournament between the USA and Europe. The Dirty Little Sneaker is, I think, not a trophy.
2. "Little Caesar" is a 1930s movie starring Edward G. Robinson.

Answer: True

Robinson played Caesar Enrico (Rico) Bandella, a Chicago gangster who worked his way up from the bottom to be top man. His famous last line is, "Mother of mercy...is this the end of Rico?" The film, nominated for an Academy Award for Best Writing (Adaption), is in the National Film Registry.

Although Robinson was listed in 1999 as one of the top 25 male film actors, he never was nominated for an individual Academy Award. He was posthumously awarded an Honorary Academy Award in 1973.
3. One of Robin Hood's Merry Men was known as "Little ___".

Answer: John

John Little was known as "Little John" because he was anything but little! Of interest, Alan Hale played Little John in films in 1922 (silent), 1938, and 1950. [His son, Alan Hale, Jr. was the Skipper on "Gilligan's Island."]
4. What is the name of a famous statue in Copenhagen Harbor?

Answer: The Little Mermaid

"The Little Mermaid" (Ariel) is a bronze statue by Edward Ericksen that has graced the harbor since 1913. It is based on an 1837 story by Hans Christian Anderson that was made into an animated Disney film in 1989.
5. What comic strip, created by Marjorie Henderson Buell in 1935, features Lulu Moppet?

Answer: Little Lulu

"Little Lulu" featured Tubby as Lulu's boyfriend and Iggy, Annie Magee and Alvin Jones as some of her friends. "The Little Lulu Show" was an animated television program from 1995 to 1999.
6. Richard Penniman was born on December 25, 1935. He was elected to both the Songwriter Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He is better known as...?

Answer: Little Richard

Little Richard, an ordained minister, had such top hits as "Tutti Frutti" (Number Two in Billboard's Rhythm and Blues Best Sellers in 1955) and "Long Tall Sally" (Number One in the same list in 1956).
7. In "Peanuts", Charlie Brown had a crush on which female?

Answer: The Little Red-Haired Girl

The Little Red-Haired Girl is a symbol of unrequited love. She never physically appears in the comic strip, but does in television specials, such as "It's Your First Kiss, Charlie Brown" (1977).
8. Which "little" Texas town was the home of the television Maverick brothers? (It is just around the...)

Answer: Bend

The "Maverick" show ran from 1957-1962. It included, at various times, three brothers: Bret (James Garner), Bart (Jack Kelly), and Brent (Robert Colbert), as well as cousin Beau (Roger Moore).
9. The widely used nickname for Charlie Chaplin was The Little Comedian.

Answer: False

Chaplin was known as The Little Tramp because of his roles in "The Tramp" and "The Bank" in 1915. His character had baggy pants, a tight coat, a bowler hat, a cane, and a small mustache. He refused to make a talkie with "The Little Tramp" as the main character.
10. After the success of the cartoon strip "Little Orphan Annie", a rival comic strip appeared. Which one was it? (Mickey knows.)

Answer: Little Annie Rooney

Little Annie Rooney was about the adventures of a 12-year old orphan who had a dog named Zero. The cartoon, which had a number of different artists beginning with Ed Verdier, lasted from 1927-1966. Little Annie Fanny was a satirical cartoon in "Mad". (Mickey Rooney was a film star.)
