1. Which of these is NOT an English cheese?

Answer: Brie

Brie is a soft, white cheese from France known for its creamy consistency and similarity to Camembert. The other three are all famous English cheeses, Stilton being a creamy blue and the other two being hard cheeses.
2. Who was Starsky's partner in a 1970s American police series?

Answer: Hutch

'Starsky and Hutch' ran from 1975-1979 and starred Paul Michael Glaser as Dave Starsky and David Soul as Ken Hutchinson. Based in California, these two were cool and street-wise cops who often had to bend the rules a little to put away the bad guys. Huggy Bear (played by Antonio Fargas) was their word on the street informer. Makepeace belongs with Dempsey and Lacey belongs with Cagney in two different shows.
3. Anne of Cleves was a wife of which notorious English monarch?

Answer: Henry VIII

Anne of Cleves was Henry's fourth wife from six but was the one that not only survived him but also the other five. German born, she was Queen of England from January to July 1540, Henry having the marriage quickly annulled as he was disappointed how different she looked in real life from the portrait he was shown by Hans Holbein the Younger.

After the annulment she was given palaces and led a comfortable life, almost becoming like another sister to the king, a far cry from how some of the other wives were treated.
4. Three of these are eponymous Shakespeare characters. Which one is NOT?

Answer: The date in December on which Christmas Day falls

The answer is 25. There are three blind mice multiplied by the fourteen from Valentine's Day which makes 42. Adding eight from the octopus tentacles is 50 and halving it makes 25. Christmas Day is December 25.
6. The Hampshire, the Hebridean and the Herdwick are breeds of which animal?

Answer: Sheep

The Hampshire, Hebridean and Herdwick are three British breeds of sheep. The Hampshire was first bred around 1830 and as the name suggests, originated in the Hampshire Downs. The Hebridean has been around for hundreds of years but came close to extinction in the 1970s.

It has now been taken off the conservation list. It is a black breed of sheep from the Hebrides and Highland areas of Scotland. The Herdwick sheep is native to the Lake District area in Cumbria and has been around since at least the 1100s.

These survived being wiped out from a foot-and-mouth epidemic in 2001 but numbers have since improved.
7. Doctor Crippen was a notorious murderer from the early part of the 20th century. His victim was his wife; what was her name?

Answer: Cora

Hawley Harvey Crippen was the first criminal to be caught using transatlantic wireless communication. American by birth, he had lived in London since 1897 with his second wife Cora. He met and hired Ethel Le Neve, a young typist around the turn of the century and she became his mistress a few years later.

After a friend of Cora's notified the police about her suspicions of her sudden disappearance, initial searches of the Crippen house turned up no leads. But Crippen was worried the police knew something so fled with Ethel to Belgium. From there they boarded the SS Montrose and set sail for a new life in Canada. Ethel was disguised as a young boy so as not to arouse suspicion.

However, the captain of the ship recognised them both and asked his telegraphist to inform the British authorities.

Inspector Walter Dew, who had earlier questioned Crippen at his home, boarded the SS Laurentic which was a faster ship than the Montrose and reached Canada first. Crippen was apprehended roughly six months after the murder and brought back to England to stand trial.

After a short deliberation the jury found him guity and Crippen was hung in November 1910 at Pentonville Prison, London.
