6. I'm supposed to "Go Tell Aunt Rhody" about somebody's death, but I can't quite remember whose. According to the lyrics of this rather grim folk tune, what creature died?

Answer: Goose

While the origins of this folk song are obscure, it dates back at least to the early 20th century and likely before the mid-19th century U.S. Civil War. There are many variations on the lyrics, the aunt's name, and the cause of death, but the message is always the same: "The old gray goose is dead." The aunt -- Rhody, Nancy, Tabby, or another name in different versions -- had been saving the goose to make a feather bed.

7. Gee, let me see, this movie is based on a book. Hmm, one of the seven deadly sins is in the title. Yum, there's red, purple, green, and black bunches of a kind of fruit in the title too! Um, the author is John something or other, and Henry somebody stars in the movie version. So that's pretty much all I can think of. Could you help me out here? What's the name of the book and movie?

Answer: The Grapes of Wrath

Oh yeah, now I remember a little more of it. Ahem, welcome to life during the Great Depression. Author John Steinbeck's Pulitzer Prize-winning 1939 classic novel, "The Grapes of Wrath", centered around a struggling family of "Okies", aka Oklahomans, named the Joads. Like other farmers in their plight, the Joads headed to California after their house went into foreclosure. Julia Ward Howe's "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" is where the title of the novel came from. "The Grapes of Wrath" also earned Mr. Steinbeck the Nobel Prize for Literature. Nunnally Johnson, who wrote the screenplay for Marilyn Monroe's 1953 movie "How to Marry a Millionaire", was the screenwriter for the movie version of "The Grapes of Wrath". This 1940 movie that starred legendary actor Henry Fonda was directed by John Ford. Mr. Ford also directed the John Wayne and James Stewart western, "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" (1962).

8. What 1980s movie featured the phrase, "Carpathian Kitten Loss"?

Answer: Ghostbusters II

In the 1989 sequel to "Ghost Busters", the guys are out of business and under New York order not to practice ghost patrol. When the Ghostbusters' favorite client, Dana Barrett, begins experiencing strange happenings surrounding herself and her infant son Oscar, she seeks paranormal expertise. Egon, Ray, Peter, and Winston are on the job, and their investigation leads them to the Manhattan Museum of Art, where Dana works. Stored at the museum is a painting of medieval tyrant Vigo the Carpathian. Dana expresses to Peter her uneasiness around the painting, to which he wittily replies: "You're probably feeling what Vigo's feeling: 'Carpathian Kitten Loss'. He's missed his kitten! We'll just put one in here by the castle". As the investigation continues, clues come together, and the Ghostbusters find a way to save the day.

9. We get the word "gargantuan" from the name "Gargantua", a character from the fiction of Francois Rabelais. Just what kind of huge creature was Gargantua?

Answer: Giant

Rabelais, who was originally trained as a physician, lived at the turn of the 16th century. His stories of the giants Gargantua and his son Pantagruel are broadly humorous, and reflect his probable enjoyment of life. Although some scholars are convinced that Rabelais was a vehement atheist, more see him as a Christian humanist with a vibrant sense of humor.

10. "Gremlins" is a perfect movie for a "G" quiz! But this question won't ask for the title of the movie, it will ask for the name of the Mogwai that started the entire invasion. Who is he?

Answer: Gizmo

Gizmo was the first Mogwai in "Gremlins". He was fed after midnight, which, as the movie says, is something you should never do with a Mogwai. Furthermore, Stripes leapt into water, which created quite a few more evil gremlins. Fortunately, cute little Gizmo stayed cute and cuddly the whole time. :-)
