Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Hansom! Hansom!" It doesn't have the quite same ring as the cry of "Taxi! Taxi!" on a city street, but horse-drawn hansom cabs were once a popular mode of transportation in the city. What was one of its unique features?

Answer: Its driver rode behind the passengers

Though the hansom cab was designed for safety, its lightweight construction lent itself to speed as well. Pulled by one horse, a hansom cab had two wheels, a small covered carriage that comfortably seated two, and a driver's seat positioned at the back. It bears the name of its English inventor, Joseph Hansom, who patented it in 1834. "Cab" is short for cabriolet, indicating the style of carriage.

Answer: Humperdinck

"The Princess Bride" is a novel by William Goldman, published in 1973 under his pseudonym, S. Morgenstern. In the story, Buttercup is a commoner whose heart is broken after a bout with love. 4. This is a very common element that is used to inflate balloons. When you suck in this element, your voice becomes very high and squeaky. What element does this?

Answer: Helium

Helium has an atomic number of 2. It is used to inflate balloons because its atomic weight (just over 4) is lighter than air, and because it is not flammable, unlike hydrogen, which is flammable. This allows the balloons to rise in the air. Helium comes from the Greek word "helios", which means "sun".

Born July 9, 1956, Thomas Jeffrey Hanks was in his first feature film in 1980's "He Knows You're Alone". But, it was in the television comedy, "Bosom Buddies" (1980 - 1982), and the 1984 flick, "Bachelor Party", that he became famous as a comedic actor. Another movie from 1984 was the romantic comedy, "Splash". It was directed by Ron Howard and starred Hanks and the lovely Daryl Hannah. Hanks shared the spotlight with Beasley, the Dogue de Bordeaux, in the 1989 comedy, "Turner & Hooch". Also in 1989, Hanks starred in the dark comedy, "The 'Burbs". In 1995, Tom provided the voice for Woody the cowboy, in the highly successful Disney/Pixar movie, "Toy Story". The animated comedy grossed over 300 million dollars worldwide. 7. Having served for centuries as a staple food for military personnel, which of these edibles does "hardtack" most closely resemble?

Answer: Cracker

Hardtack is a cracker-like edible that, while hardly a culinary delight, has long-lasting properties that made it practical on long-term sailing trips or in the military. It was a requisite ration for the United Kingdom's Royal Navy and for soldiers during the American Civil War. Hardtack is simply made with flour, water, and sometimes salt, and usually baked twice or more until very hard and dry. To eat it, one would have to soften it in a liquid such as water or coffee. If you don't, well, just remember that this "ship's biscuit" or "pilot bread" earned nicknames like "molar breaker" and "sheet iron." Yum!

8. "Hello Clarice." The infamous character, Dr. Hannibal 'The Cannibal' Lecter, was masterfully portrayed by veteran thespian Sir Anthony Hopkins. He starred in three of the five thrillers based on this character. In which two films did Hopkins NOT play Hannibal?

Answer: Hannibal Rising and Manhunter

Based on the novels by author and screenwriter Thomas Harris, we first met the diabolically manipulative psychiatrist, Dr. Hannibal Lecter, in the 1981 book, "Red Dragon". In 1986, "Red Dragon" was made into a movie under the working title "Manhunter". Scottish actor Brian Cox played the role of Hannibal. In 1988, Harris released a second book based on Hannibal titled, "The Silence of the Lambs". In 1991, the novel was turned into a movie under the same title. This time Welsh actor Sir Anthony Hopkins had taken the role of Dr. Lecter. Hopkins won an Oscar for his portrayal of the brilliant and frightening serial killer. Other novels about Dr. Lecter include "Hannibal" (1999) and "Hannibal Rising" (2006). Hopkins reprised his role two more times for the movie version of "Hannibal" in 2001 and the 2002 remake of "Manhunter", this time under the book's title "Red Dragon". In 2007, French actor Gaspard Ulliel portrayed a younger version of Hannibal in "Hannibal Rising". This thriller gave the audience a deeply disturbing look into Hannibal's background.

Aaron Eckhart plays Harvey Dent, Gotham City's district attorney and "white knight," who is horribly disfigured at the same time his fiancee, Rachel Dawes, is killed. His half-and-half appearance is mirrored by his "lucky" two-faced coin, which was blackened on only one side in the explosion that killed Rachel. In his quest for vengeance, Harvey "Two-Face" uses the coin to decide whether his adversaries will live or die. The Harvey Dent/Two-Face character has been portrayed on previous films by Billy Dee Williams and Tommy Lee Jones.
