5. A serious accident at the U.S. nuclear plant located on Three Mile Island in 1979 almost resulted in a core meltdown. The plant is located in what U.S. state? (Hint: This plant was built on an island in the middle of the Susquehanna River.)

Answer: Pennsylvania

The Three Mile Island nuclear plant was built on an island in the middle of Pennsylvania's Susquehanna River, just 10 miles downstream from the state capitol of Harrisburg (and within 100 miles of Baltimore, Philadelphia and Washington, DC). In 1979, technical failures, compounded by human error, almost caused a core meltdown.

It was a very scary experience for anyone who lived through it.
6. Which of these men was NOT a pro baseball manager? (Hint: He is sometimes referred to as "Papa Bear.")

Answer: George Halas

George Halas starred in both football and baseball for the University of Illinois. He played baseball for the New York Yankees in 1919, but retired because of an injury. He won seven league championships and was voted NFL Coach of the Year in 1963 and 1965.

Answer: 1913

The 16th amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified in 1913, giving Congress the power to tax incomes 'from whatever source derived.' However, the first income tax was actually levied briefly almost 51 years earlier by an act of Congress in 1862.

Answer: Paul Castellano

Gambino crime family boss Paul Castellano was murdered on the order of gangster John Gotti in 1985. Gotti was often referred to as 'The Dapper Don' because of his natty style of dressing. Gotti's underboss Sammy 'The Bull' Gravano turned state's evidence and sent Gotti to jail for life in 1992.
9. The official hymn of the U.S. Marine Corp starts off with the line "From the halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli." In what modern-day country is Tripoli located? (Hint: This is not the one in Northern Lebanon.)

Answer: Libya

Pirates located on the Barbary Coast on the northern coast of Africa caused considerable interference with U.S. shipping in the early 1800s. During the term of U.S. President Thomas Jefferson the warship USS Constitution (known as 'Old Iron Sides' because its oak plank sides deflected many canon balls) was commissioned to help defeat these pirates.
10. What famous U.S. memorial did Maya Lin design? (Hint: Her design at first generated much controversy and opposition, but now it is widely acclaimed.)

Answer: Vietnam War memorial
