James Cameron, director of "Titanic", based the character of Rose on Beatrice Wood, daughter of a wealthy San Francisco family. She led a long and interesting life, but did not in actual fact sail on the Titanic. Due to her age, she declined an invitation to the premiere of the film, but James Cameron presented her with a video to watch at home. She died at the age of 105, a year after the film was released.

Only two Catherines reigned as Empress of Russia. Catherine I was the first woman to hold Russian Imperial power in her own right. Both Catherines became supreme ruler on the death of their husbands, Peter I and Peter III respectively.

Kate Hudson closely resembles Goldie Hawn and, like her, is a successful actress. They both tend to be typecast in "ditzy blonde" rom com roles.

Lee Marvin won the Best Actor Oscar for his role in "Cat Ballou". Jane Fonda did not win any awards for that film, but she did pick up two Best Actress Oscars at the height of her career: one for "Klute" (1972) and the other for "Coming Home" (1979).

Just as well that the little children who recite the rhyme are unaware of its origin. It would appear that Lucy and Kitty were ladies of questionable virtue. Lucy had an admirer who paid her for her favours (therefore referred to as her "pocket"). She lost her "pocket" and Kitty Fisher found it, when he transferred his affections from Lucy to Kitty. Sadly, by then he had lost all his money, so the "pocket" was empty!

Kathy Bates won an Academy Award for "Misery", and she was also nominated for "Primary Colors" (1998) and for "About Schmidt" (2002).

When visiting an art gallery and seeing religious paintings by the Old Masters, it is always useful to know which saint or martyr you are looking at. Obligingly, the artist usually pops in a helpful clue.
St Catherine was martyred by being broken on a wheel, hence the wheel in her pictures.
St Lucia had her eyes put out and she is always carrying two eyeballs about on a little saucer, despite still having her eyes in her head in the paintings.
St Barbara's pictures always incorporate the tower in which she was imprisoned; St Stephen has a bunch of arrows stuck in his body; somewhere in a picture of St Lawrence you will see the grill on which he was roasted alive, and so it goes. Being a martyr was not a barrel of laughs!
