Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. His first name was Bill, but what was the surname of the music promoter that was so highly thought of, that both Journey and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young reunited to play at a tribute concert following his death in 1991?

Answer: Graham

Bill Graham was born Wulf Grajoncain in Germany, from where he fled as a child to escape the persecution of Jews. During his career, he either managed or promoted artists such as Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, Bob Dylan and Santana. He was a keen promoter of benefit concerts, and died when his helicopter crashed following a meeting to organise acts for a benefit concert for the victims of the Oakland firestorm of 1991.
2. On the British throne, who was the last monarch of the House of Tudor?

Answer: Queen Elizabeth I

Queen Elizabeth was the daughter of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn and reigned from 1558-1603. Although she had several offers, she never married, saying she was "married to my kingdom and subjects", and following her death, James VI of Scotland became James I of England and Ireland.
3. Which brothers were "Muscle Bound" in 1981, "True" in 1983 and called Ronnie and Reggie in 1990?

Answer: Kemp

Gary and Martin Kemp are the guitarist and bass player respectively for Spandau Ballet, who have also turned their hands to acting, most notably playing the Kray twins in gangster movie "The Krays". Gary also appeared in the Whitney Houston/Kevin Costner blockbuster "The Bodyguard", while Martin played a villain in BBC soap opera "Eastenders" for over three years.
4. What is the provincial capital of British Columbia, Canada?

Answer: Victoria

All are in BC, but Victoria on Vancouver Island is the capital. It is the southernmost major city in Western Canada and has the oldest Chinatown area in Canada dating back to 1858 and the Fraser Valley gold rush. Vancouver is the most populous city in the province and is where the band Chilliwack are from, although they took their name from the city's neighbour. Prince George is the largest city in northern BC and sits in a valley causing people to complain of the odours from pulp mills in the area, which tend to linger.
5. Who is Hall's partner on hits such as "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)" and "Maneater" and the man with whom he shares a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame?

Answer: Oates

Hall and Oates started performing together in 1970 and in a plot line worthy of a Hollywood movie, only met when they ran to the same elevator after shots were fired during a gang fight at a Battle of the Bands competition in Philadelphia. Their first number one in the USA was "Rich Girl" in 1977, which was covered in 1978 by jazz singer Nina Simone on her "Baltimore" album.
6. In the novel, "Gone With The Wind", Scarlett marries Charles Hamilton, Frank Kennedy, and Rhett Butler, while really being in love with Ashley. What is Ashley's surname in this classic book?

Answer: Wilkes

Prior to Ashley marrying his cousin Melanie, Scarlett tells him that she is in love with him and he admits his feelings for her but goes ahead with the marriage because "Like must marry like or there'll be no happiness." Scarlett then marries Charles and following his death marries Frank who is murdered. Finally she marries Rhett, but never stopped loving Ashley. Tara is the name of the plantation owned by Scarlett's father and the four Tarleton boys love mischief and are, according to their mother Beatrice, "worse than the plagues of Egypt".
7. First appearing in Disney comic strips in 1949, what is the name of Goofy's pet mynah bird, whose last appearance was in 1972?

Answer: Ellsworth

Ellsworth, due to the magic of Disney, had a unique ability among mynah birds of not just being able to repeat words, but actually carry on complete conversations. Goofy bought him from a pet store and he accompanied him on many adventures, managing along the way to get a job teaching at a university and even getting arrested. Now that's a talented bird!
8. After David Lange resigned as leader of the Labour Party and Prime Minister of New Zealand in 1989, who took his place, leading the country from August 1989 to September 1990?

Answer: Geoffrey Palmer

Disputes over economic policies led to fighting within the Labour Party, and eventually to Lange's resignation, whereupon Palmer as Deputy PM took over. However with a general election looming and Palmer being seen as too closely associated with Lange as well as viewed as aloof by the New Zealand people, he was replaced with Mike Moore just two months before the election which was won with a landslide victory by the National Party.

Helen Clark was Palmer's deputy PM and Hawke and Keating were both Australian Prime Ministers.
