Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I'm Cece SoSquirrely, enjoying a game, an American pastime - you must know the name! There's a diamond, an umpire, a bat and a ball - what is this fun sport, surely known by most all?

Answer: baseball

Baseball is believed to have its origins in the British game of rounders. Besides being the national sport in the US, it is the number one team sport in both Japan and Cuba.
Played between two teams of nine players each, the game is divided into nine innings (unless a tie in scores requires additional innings).
Ty Cobb, Mickey Mantle and Reggie Jackson are just a few of the American players whose names have become synonymous with the sport. And, as of 2012, the longest professional baseball game was played at McCoy Stadium in Rhode Island (1981) and lasted 33 innings. The final score was 3 - 2.
2. A Lou Diamond Phillips movie is playing, and I simply must be saying, he plays his role perfectly, you will surely agree! His acting's above par, as he portrays a rock star. With a sad end to the character's rise to fame, what is this biographical movie's name?

Answer: La Bamba

'La Bamba' was released in 1987, and in addition to Phillips, the movie featured Esai Morales, Rosanna DeSoto and Elizabeth Pena. Lou Diamond Phillips starred as Ritchie Valens (Richard Steven Valenzuela), a normal teenager who skyrockets to fame in the rock 'n' roll world.

While a bright future and fortune seem to be within his grasp, he still must grapple with the everyday issues of a complicated life, including his fear of flying. And it is his overcoming of that fear in pursuit of his career which leads to his death at the age of 17. Don Mclean's 'American Pie' was written as a tribute to Richie Valens, The Big Bopper and Buddy Holly.

Answer: Diamond Head

Located on the Hawaiian island of O'ahu, Diamond Head is part of the Honolulu Volcanic Series - which created many of O'ahu's other landmarks as well as Diamond Head. It is estimated to be 150,000 years old - and extinct for that long - and it is not expected to erupt again.
The tuff cone is highly visible from Waikiki Beach, as well as from various other points both on the island and ocean. At one time, a military reservation (Fort Ruger) was located in and around the crater.

Answer: rattlesnake

The western diamondback rattlesnake - Crotalus atrox - is found in the southwestern and western areas of the US, and in northern Mexico. It is believed to be responsible for most of the fatal snakebites in northern Mexico, and second (first is the eastern diamondback rattlesnake) for fatal snakebites in the US.
The western diamondback is viviparous, and the babies are capable of giving a venomous bite as soon as they are born.
