Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Danny Kaye portrayed a legendary jazz musician and bandleader in the movie "The Five Pennies". Which musician was it?

Answer: Red Nichols

Ernest "Red" Nichols was a cornetist and bandleader during the Big Band Era. Although he played with various groups and numbers of musicians he always referred to them as The Five Pennies as a play on the word "nickel" which sounded similar to his surname. His style was heavily influenced by legendary trumpeter Bix Beiderbecke.
2. Which of these is NOT a variation of poker that involves dealing five cards?

Answer: Baseball

Baseball is a wild card variation of Seven Card Stud in which all nines are wild, a three in the "hole" is wild and a four dealt face up entitles the player to an extra face up card. A three dealt face up stops the hand.

"Lowball" is a five card draw game in which the lowest ranking hand wins.
3. What crooner had a hit in the 40s with a song called "Five Minutes More"?

Answer: Frank Sinatra

"Five Minutes More" was written by the legendary team of Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne. They wrote it for the movie "The Sweetheart of Sigma Chi". Frank Sinatra's recording reached number one on the Billboard Pop Chart on September 14, 1946 and remained there for four weeks.
4. Which of the five human senses can be referred to as "tactile"?

Answer: touch

The word "tactile" is derived from the Latin word "tactilis" which literally translates to "tangible". Dictionary.com defines it as "pertaining to, endowed with or affecting the sense of touch with a secondary definition of perceptible or tangible to the touch". A tactile map, for example, would have raised landmarks to enable the blind to find their way.

7. What Scrabble letter is worth 5 points?

Answer: K

There are 100 tiles in a Scrabble set, 98 of which are letters with varying point values. The other two are blanks and can be used in place of any letter but have no point value. Although the letter "S" is worth only one point it is highly valuable as it can be added to an existing word on the board to pluralize it and enable all the letters in the word to be counted again.
8. How many US state names have five letters?

Answer: 3

Idaho, Maine and Texas are the only state names with five letters.

The origin of Idaho's name is undetermined. Many history books say it came from the Shoshone language. The origin of Maine's name is also uncertain, but it was likely named for the French province of Maine. The name "Texas" comes from the Native American language, Caddo. "Tejas" means friend.

10. What is the Roman numeral for the number five?
