Answer: The Vincent Black Shadow

The rider Rollie Free made the run wearing only a bathing suit and running shoes. Phil Vincent was the man behind the famous 'Black Shadow '. The engines were 998 cc V twins set at 50 degrees with overhead valves. Vincent went into liquidation 1949 but kept producing bikes until 1955.

The 1948 'Black Shadow' was its peak of excellence and if you own one today then you own one of the most beautiful and sought after motorcycles ever made, a true legend.
